Why is Mike Ashley still here?

Is he about  to stand down in 6 months time in the face of the protests which will surely intensify again

after taking as much money as he can , Goodbye Enrique, Colo, Barton etc. for another 20M or so?

If it relegates the abusive Geordies into the bargain then all well and good,

He will take the money cut his losses and run.

It is the only logical explanation I can think of for his latest reckless capitulation in the transfer window

leaving us staring into the abyss with a weakened dispirited squad and fanbase for the crucial second

half of the season.

People seem surprised that no money is spent by him, but why should he, if as I suspect, his aim is to

get out of what has become an unbearable tenure with as much money as he can salvage as

he now surely knows that he cannot get all of his money back.

Because he hasn't sold the club yet [/literal answer]

You can hardly judge the man for taking 35mil+ for a player who has had 6 good months in the premiership and then we simply didn't have enough time to bring in an adequate replacement. By no means am I an Ashley fan, but all this Carroll shit is starting to get boring.

Agreed 100%

When the hell is Andy Carroll going to be worth more than £35m? Even if he realises his potential I assume by then there would be some kind of financial regulations in place within football to stop enormous fees in the future.

So long as the money is invested in the TEAM in the summer, Ashley did a very good bit of business with the Carroll sale.

I just cant believe he can stand the dogs abuse he gets and sticks around. I mean he doesnt seem to mind losing fortunes in the casino, I would have thought he would have given up and took the loss by now to get away from it.

He must be as stubborn and thick skinned as they come.

To be honest man, he's obviously gained his fortune by being this way in business. Has surely upset a few people on the way and has inevitably been extremely successful.

Shame it's not showing that way at our club.

It's a good price for a decent striker, but fact is he was the only decent striker at the club. The other half-decent one is now out for some time with a fractured jaw, and we have to rely on championship quality strikers, at best. It was a position that needed strengthening, and instead they chose  money and potential relegation.

The only thing getting boring is the way FCB is ripping this club to shreads.

If you want to bring success to a club you build around the best young players at that club.

You do not sell them.

You sell players that don't want to be at the club, Carroll clearly showed that with the transfer request.  I get a feeling the Carroll saga is going to be like the whole Keegan crap.

Agree 100% - clubs with ambition do not sell their best players.

We are going nowhere under Ashley - it will be years of survival at best - its a shameful situation for a club of our size and potential

I've got a feeling the club will be sold in the summer.

That's the best bit of buisness we could do this summer  O0

It would mean losing the Carroll money. I just think our overdraft being cleared in one swoop (something Ashley planned over 5 years) puts us in a good position to attract bidders. IF we can get Barton & Colo under £50k and not have anyone paid over that we are easily ready for the new financial rules and still have room to manoeuvre and get some better players in. Our capacity also plays a huge part in what we can potentially earn, a new owner would surely see an increase in ticket sale especially if it is someone we feel is going to take the club forward.

You might have noticed that Liverpool have set out to repalce Torres.

And when Ronaldo and Anelka left Manure and the Arse respectively the clubs were left with marginally stronger squads than we have now.

agree. especially when caroll asked nufc to match the wages liverpool was offering him! atm i like the wage-structure we have....its the only way to progress and it will more or less only attract players who really want to play for us!

Yep. Said the same thing myself yesterday.

Would be gutted if we broke our wage structure to accomodate a money-hungry player.

The wage bill should be a bit less in the championship.

Thats where unambitious, badly run clubs wind up.

What about ambitious clubs that spend way beyond their means and end up with financial problems so big that they get a 10 pt deduction and get relegated?

We managed to sign Cheik and Hatem within this structure. Proof that quality players will play for the club without demanding silly money.

The wage structure is one of the few things the board have done right to be honest.
