Got a better chance of predicting the lottery numbers than getting the right answer for this. For the sake of the club, I hope there's some stability from now on.

For what it's worth I hope he does stay, not because I particularly rate him but because it's high time we at least tried to build something. Unless we're in immediate danger of being relegated a manager should see the season out - that's one of the reasons I was so pissed off when Hughton was booted out. Not to mention the fact that I'm unsure who any replacement manager could even be.

Assuming we stay up (and aside from the investment the club is prepared to make, because the two don't necessarily seem to correlate in Ashley's world), I do wonder what the target will be for next season.

Really depends on the summer. Strengthen with the Carroll money and I guess a realistic target is Europe.

:sadnod:

As a casino buddy, if he gives Pardew a bit of time and backs him with the cash then we might (just migggght) see a decent return from some much needed stability.

That being said, the likelihood of him a) giving Pardew time and b) backing him with cash is about as likely as the lottery numbers knocking on my front door and handing themselves to me.

Europe is but a distant dream atm. We're still a couple of years away from challenging imo.

The second season back is always the biggest test for any club. More worried about next year than I have been this year. Considering the depth of quality in the squad, Europe might wreck us at the min.

Can't see it happening. I reckon he'll get binned in September following a bad run of results. Some other mug will come in thinking they'll be the one who fulfils our potential.

Rinse and repeat until Ashley fucks off.

Shall we just see what happens?

Absolutely. We've not got much choice.

Not much in having threads like this if we're not allowed to speculate as to what might, or might not, happen though. All about opinions and all that.

Think there's a good chance he'll see next season out.

Could still lose some key players this summer, but there will be money to spend on replacements so maybe the status quo - somewhere mid table - can be maintained.

Can see a year of consolidation ahead, and there's no reason to think Ashley would not be happy with that.

If Pardew gets it right, that is. And the board works with him on securing the players he wants.

Think he just has to watch the way he talks about his past success in the transfer market/the need to find a new number 9 etc.  He could be setting himself up for a fall if things don't work out.

The summer will be his most important here, but it would be a lot on the plate of any manager - with the key contract renewals/Carroll money to spend etc.

Overall I think Ashley will be looking for some nous in the transfer market, and will give Pardew a year to see how his moves work out - unless the wheels fall off completely during the season.

It would appear that people are STILL unaware of what exactly Pardew is here to do

Once again I quote Golfmag, who'd heard about Pardew becoming manager long before anyone else and posted this on here

A very specific part of Pardew's written remit is to reduce costs and the debt, to make it easier for MA to sell the club. Look at everything he says in this context..

In all of this guys, don't forget (I almost had) that our info was that Pardew was given the very specific responsibility of reducing the wage bill as a condition of his employment, as MA feels that a lower cost base will now make the club easier to sell.

So unless we get relegated, his job is safe, anything from 17th upwards will suffice

It also begs the question, unless high earners like Xisco and Smith are moved on, how on earth are we going to reduce the wage bill? That's why I always thought that selling Carroll was a terrible idea unless he was on 300k a week or the 4 or 5 players coming in are going to play for nothing

unless an abaramovich style owner came in the policy was going to have to be, "reduce costs and bring the debt down" anyway. also doing that doesn't necessarily mean the club will be easier to sell.
