Woodgate was absolutely world class on his day, him and Colo would of been fantastic together. They're both miles ahead of any other centre back I've seen in a black and white shirt that's for sure.

Neither was miles ahead of Albert. Albert and Colo would be my pick in an NUFC '93- Xl.

I'm too young to remember him properly to be honest.

Albert was a joy to watch.  He knew how the game should be played.  I still remember his debut away to Leicester. It was about 11 mins in and he picked the ball up from about 30 yards out and hit a screamer that the keeper tipped over.  We had never seen a centre back attack and get forward like that.  would love to watch that type of football again.

Check "Phillipe Albert Compilation at Newcastle" on YT.  Man he was class.

Fair play, mate.

Albert was mint, so mint. Ahead of his time tbh

Just a fantastic footballer full stop.....and it is for that very reason that you couldn't play Colo alongside him. Colo's main attribute, imo of course, is his actual footballing ability....distribution, positioning that kind of thing. I'd want a bona fide out and out defender with either. Albert had Howey and Peacock but imagine him with Woodgate who had all of what Colo has plus a bit of pace and better in the air too.

And he scored goals, whereas Woodgate and Colo don't. Sounds simplistic but I want at least one CB to hold genuine goal threat.

Tbh you'd blates play Tiote in front of your back 4, so you can afford an extravagance or 2.

Would be tempted by Debuchy or Beye right back, we haven't really been blessed there the last 20-odd years.  Enrique left back too.

Agree on both counts. The main full backs in KK's sides (Beresford, Hottinger, Barton etc etc) wouldn't touch the modern day full back imho and, whilst Bernard was immense for that 18 month period, I've not seen a better LB than Enrique for NUFC.

Off the top of my head:

                                                                Given

Beye                      Colo                                            Woodgate                        Enrique

Dyer                        Lee                                            Cabaye                            Ginola

                                                      Beardsley

                                                        Shearer

Subs:

Krul

Debuchy

Albert

Speed

Gillespie

Ferdinand

Cole

Solano and Robert have to be in the squad at least.

Different side (although as mentioned above Dyer was really more of a central player) but Robert shitted all over Dyer talent wise from a great, great height.

Robert's the best winger we've had in my lifetime by a distance. With the way the game's changing in favour of a different type of wide player I can see that lasting a while.

I'm a little biased, mind. He's the third player on my teamsheet.

Ginola was better IMHO.

Come on then......stick your team up.

Said this many times before on here but if I were looking for Ginola or Robert to play in a team that was looking to be at the very very top I'd pick Ginola every time as he was a better footballer than Robert (he could play as a #10 for example).

Not to take anything away from Robert like as you look at just how many goals/assists he got for us. Perfect player at the perfect time.
