Weren't Celtic in a very similar position financially in the 90s when rangers won 9 in a row?

Celtic had a lot of debt because of the expansion of Celtic Park in the 90's.

but they were still struggling like rangers are now. So its a classic case of karma for all the gers fans who were laughing at Celtic during that time. What goes around truely does come around.

Karma? What the f*** are you talking about!?! That's taxpayer money that Rangers are f***ing about with there. That's schools and hospitals at stake. If Rangers go under, so too will the SPL. And Celtic fans will have the smug grins wiped off their faces quick smart when Sky/ESPN pull out of the television contract and the money carpet is pulled from under their business viability too...

Hadn't thought of that though, had you thanks to being a blinkered sectarian bigot...

Rangers scumbags wouldn't stop the abuse for every one of them years and laughed at Celtic's debt no matter what it meant and had no sympathy the horrible bastards. But now who's laughing eh? even if the league gets worst Celtic will still be the team on top of the rest. At the end of the day it's Celtic who are havin the last laugh and the rangers scum are getting their come upping, f*** anything else.

14 points ahead yup yup.

Thats something to gloat about in a league thats only ever a two horse race.

doesnt matter if it were a 50 horse race being the best is being the best and success is success. And also you can only beat what's put before you so unless the fa let celtic in the english league then like I pointed out you can only beat what gets put against you and celtic are doing that well atm.

Whats that got to do with anything? IF celtic win the league buy less than 10 points then really the fans should be ashamed tbh

well you were basicly saying we're gloting about being king of a shit league with only 2 big clubs so that why i stated that unless they're allowed in the english leagues they can't be in a better league so might as well enjoy being kings of this one as well as watching you number one enemy fall apart.

Seems like Rangers arent the only ones now. I wonder who the other 8 would be?

Winning it once in 4 years constitutes in being "kings" now? Rangers have one more league titles than celtic so how are celtic the kings? Absolute shite!

they will likely be champions from now on for many years and be the modern kings so its more of a future reference tbh. But then again you never know rangers could be revived but until then its celtics time on the throne.

I know we tried to stop paying some form of tax a while ago and lost our case so hopefully it'll not be us.  How many clubs has Redknapp managed?

That was an argument over VAT on agents fees. We lost the case, appealed but provided for the sum in the accounts. Can't remember what became of any appeal.

I'm sure I read a note in one of our last two sets of accounts saying we'd lost the appeal.

I wonder how many less trophies would have been won if they hadn't racked up all of the debt.  A 10 point deduction isn't anywhere enough when it will have no bearing on anything.  Clubs who have £millions in debt written off should be relegated down a division.

The administration laws/rules in relation to football are a joke.

it seems like the whole football finace world is going to get a shock. can't happen soon enough.

Agreed.  You can see the bubble starting to burst now.

Fortunately, I think we have been one of the few clubs who have kept an eye on the 'bubble burst' with financial planning. Football is on the precipice right now, the longer the recession goes on, we'll see this happening more and more. Can't wait for the day when wages come down but that'll be the last thing to go

Mate the league is an absolute joke and even fans of the Old Firm know it. Beating the likes of Motherwell and Dundee may bring them a trophy, but the trophy in itself is meaningless. Should Rangers go into liquidation an already uncompetitive league will be monopolised by Celtic, and sooner or later even they will tire of it.

i think they'd only tire of it after 10 seasons, just so they'd have the ultimate in oneupmanship over the rangers 9 in a row of the '80's-'90's

Which basically illustrates the point that the entire SPL is simply a vessel for their rivalry. When one of them liquidates, it becomes pointless.

Would it not then allow a club like Motherwell or even Dundee to progress more as they will have the chance of Champions League and Champions League money ? Even if Rangers disappeared (which they won't) I could see them getting back in the bottom league and more or less doing a Juventus and coming straight back through the leagues due to fan base etc. Might end up then with 3 teams fighting out at the top.

Hard to say, this is of course all speculation. I would argue that the quality of players currently available to  such teams means they are unlikely to get past the qualifying rounds to get into the CL. The disparity in fanbase means they are always going to be behind the Old Firm. Also, could the SPL not also lose European slots if its performance continues to drop?

I'd expect the overall viewership of the SPL to fall if Rangers were out of it, meaning sponsorships would drop out, new sponsors would offer less money, ESPN will stop showing live matches and I'd also expect Celtic's fanbase to drop.

That would mean less money for all the clubs, so Celtic would have an advantage as they have the most money as it is. Less money also means less competitive, so teams that get the second and third position could go in to Europe, but would then probably get knocked out in the qualifying rounds, decreasing their ranking and ultimately leading to less European spots.

If Rangers were to go, imo all the factors added together would lead to the SPL becoming no more than the Welsh League come 10-15 years time.

edit: that's horribly written, but fuck it.
