Guest Roy the Irish Magpie
It baffles me to hear Chelsea's performance tonight being describe as "the best english performance ever in europe". All Chelsea done was stick 10 men behind the ball and hoof, hoof, hoof, and make use of the ugly side of the game to deal with clearly more gifted players, John Terry's knee summing that up. Peter Cech and Ashley Cole were top class but other than that, no, just no. A chelsea mate argued that the reason for the ten behind teh ball was due to the sending off, bullsh*t, simply bullsh*t, look back at the match last week and they done the exact same thing with 11 men. I'm sorry but football lost tonight. Rant over!

Guest neesy111
Fair play to Chelsea tonight but I said a few months back the team barca feared most was Chelsea.

Foluwashola
Seems like there has been some right amateur dramatics in here, like Didn't want Chelsea to win tonight, but we'll get CL football if we deserve it. Settle down.
Dr Colossus
Just noticed Barca's record in the Champions League since 2008 looks like this: 2008: Semi-final 2009: Winners 2010: Semi-final 2011: Winners 2012: Semi-final 2013: *Rushes over to betting thread*

Settle down. Bizarre logic. Why's that? Because you're ignoring all of the important factors. Achieving 4th would be difficult but finishing 3rd would be a damn sight harder. 4th usually gets you in the Champions League. This result makes it a great deal more likely that 4th would not get us in the Champions League.

Settle down. Bizarre logic. Why's that? Because it assumes that how deserving we are is somehow dependent on how another team does in a competition we didn't even take part in. Doesn't make sense. If we finish 4th, we deserve to get the rewards that it is generally established that gets you at the end of the season. It's not like 5th, 6th, 7th, whereby the latter two places only open up under certain circumstances, this is a place that only closes under very specific circumstances which we have no control over (unlike the FA Cup, League Cup). Interpolic
I'd be absolutely fucking gutted if we finished 4th and didn't get in the Champions League, would be a massive blow. We would deserve it, in usual circumstances.

Hanshithispantz
Finishing fourth you deserve to be in the Champions League, it isn't like the Waffa where domestic cups are the main route into Europe (along with 5th place), and the 6th and 7th places are the 'fail safes'. EDIT: Aye, what they said.

Perhaps I ain't as angry as I still don't think we'll finish 4th, like.

Liverpool's 2005 win was/still will be the luckiest win in human history. Not really. That win was down to Ac Milan thinking they had the game in the bag at HT which lead to complacency a poor performance second half, if you don't believe me compare their first and second half performances in the match. Liverpool were pretty much the opposite and upped their game, when they could easily have come out with their heads dropped, and gave it a right go, as much as I hated to see that. Hanshithispantz
FWIW I wouldn't say Chelsea don't deserve to be in it by the way (winning the CL is more impressive than finishing 4th), but it certainly isn't 'fair' on us.
Mole_Toonfan
FYI the rules were changed after the Liverpool and Everton fiasco to stop it happening again.... Personally i would prefer they left it as it were and just have 5 PL teams.
Guest
There was one year where Real Madrid won the Champions League and failed to get in the league placings, and the Spanish FA gave it to them rather than Real Zaragoza/Sociedad or someone like that who finished 4th.
