The other games today - 2011/12

Absolutely sickening. Chelsea may have half their first team missing for the final, but the remaining half is easily good enough to do exactly what they did today, i.e. camp in their own half and take the few chances that come their way.

And Barcelona ffs. I think Guardiola took the Total Football concept too far with there being no strikers in the team.

Look, man: teams lose yearly in the CL and no one complains. The only reason people are complaining about Barca is because they have achieved so much - they have done what no team has done before. So whenever they lose, it's a big deal. But the only reason they win so much is because they play with this style, which is unmatched. They're not going to abandon the whole reason they've achieved so much in their greatest hour of need. They're going to do what they've done for four years because for four years, they were the best club team on Earth and did what no club team has ever done before. For you to suggest that they abandon that is just unbelievable. They missed Villa a lot today but they still had a ton of chances to kill the game off earlier on. The penalty miss just seemed to have such a big psychological effect on them.

I'm not saying they should abandon a successful style of play. Just that they need to do what they've done previously with Eto'o and Villa, i.e. incorporate a striker into the team so that they have someone who specialises in taking chances. At the same time, not having midfielders in central defense would help too.

If you want some free money, get it on us to go down.

After tonight, I am utterly convinced. There's no point hiding it or trying to tough it out, if there were any justice in football, we would be relegated, we totally, totally deserve it.

I've also never witnessed a club where the fans were so utterly disconnected from every single level of the management of the club - and I say this having supported us through over 30 years of Doug Ellis.

Guardiola has shown himself up slightly recently, as Parky says the striker issue is glaring. He's shown confidence in the kids but you can't rely on them in these types of games AND they are still lacking top class central defensive cover.

My thoughts exactly, he has to shoulder the blame for this elimination. Constant experimenting with a three-man defence/midfielders in defence and failure to address holes in the squad - only one (injured) out-and-out striker and only two centre-backs. Pedro should have been playing in a game like this instead of Tello/Cuenca, since his decision-making is much better. I think Pep just got bored.

I've been waiting patiently for about 20 minutes to see the last poster in this thread being brummie.  Knew it would be gold.

Not that type of player to intentionally hurt anyone...

Was he taken off injured or did he make a miraculous recovery and play the whole game?

Bert Trautmann played in an FA Cup Final with a broken neck.....modern football I suppose.

Oh my god, he gave him a Chinese Burn! Is Puyol a man or a mouse?

He'd just had his wrist stood on or something, had it strapped up shortly after.

Quote fail but aye you're not a real man unless you play with a broken back these days. Puffs the lot of us.

Yup, that little "oooww!" from Puyol was really disgraceful.

The loudest chanting I've heard all season was tonight, it was five minutes from the end, "Fuck McLeish M'Lord, fuck McLeish" and "Fuck off McLeish, the Villa is ours".

Although not as funnily poignant as Saturday against Sunderland as they alternated "Martin, you're a twat" with "Alex, you're a twat".

I am honestly aghast that there are Newcastle fans who enjoyed watching that and were even close to being in two minds about it. Really completely and utterly puzzled.

What's so difficult to understand that the best scenario for us is for Chelsea to have one extra match in the run, get distracted with the CL final and then lose in the finals (which is likely given how many of their key players will be out)? Support Barcelona all you want but don't insult others as not supporting our team just because they have a different view

on the best scenario for NUFC

There is absolutely no way this is the best possible scenario for NUFC.

Jesus Christ.

And why not? You're talking as if we've got 4th spot sewn up. We have some tough fixtures coming up and there is no way we will win them all. We'll need Chelsea to screw up their league games too and the best way for this to happen is for them to have a congested fixture list with their mind distracted on the CL final.

The best scenario for us is for the above to happen and then of course for them to fuck up the CL finals. Unless you can given reasons otherwise, you're just talking rubbish

Just makes the CL final even more important. 100% want real to go through and destroy Chelsea, Cronaldo in particular, and I think it will happen. I also think we won't finish 4th, but that prospect has come closer with us playing Chelsea totally occupied with cup finals. It's not as bad as the drama queens are trying to make out, if you want it back in our hands, win all our remaining games, we will finish 3rd not 4th, arsenal will fuk up at leas one of their remaining games.

Anyway, let's beat Wigan first, tough game, before being as devastated as you've been all season. Christ man

hmm.  Black Country Baggies away, North London White at home and Norfolk Yellow away.  Not the easiest of run-ins!

I honestly am thinking of putting a few quid on us scoring zero goals between now and the end of the season.
