A lot of talk in Newcastle and Coventry press that a bid has been made for him, Andy Thorn (Coventry Manager) talking openly about it. Opinions?

Newcastle have offered between £500,000 and £1million for Gael Bigirimana in there local paper coventry telegraph

Newcastle United move is too soon for Gael Bigirimana, says Andy Thorn

ANDY Thorn is hoping to keep hold of Gael Bigirimana after Coventry City received an approach from Newcastle United for the exciting young midfielder.

The Premier League club are understood to have offered between £500,000 and £1million for the 18-year-old talent who they want to join their development squad at St James’ Park, similar to when Conor Thomas joined Liverpool 18-months ago.

But Sky Blues boss Thorn insists the teenager is very much part of his plans and would be better off staying at the Ricoh Arena to play competitive league games rather than moving to such a big club at a tender age.

“Gael’s a good talent but he’s still got a heck of a lot to learn and I’d be really disappointed if he left,” said Thorn, who clearly hopes that the Sky Blues’ board resist the temptation to cash in.

The City boss, who joined the Magpies at 22 but left after just a season, added: “I was a young lad when I went to Newcastle.

"They are a massive club and if you aren’t careful it eats you up if you go too soon, so you have to be very careful.”

The Burundi-born midfielder was given his big break in City’s first team last season after graduating from the club’s Academy a year early, making 28 senior appearances and earning rave reviews for his passing ability and confidence on the ball.

“He was given his chance last season and he did really well,” said Thorn.

“Then, like most kids breaking through, he had a little dip and we looked after him by taking him out of the team to get him back on his game again.

“He understood that and did that and he came back strong again, so it would be a real shame if we lost him now.

“He’s in there and very much part of my plans and I’d love to see him continue his development with us.

"I think it’s really important at his age that he’s playing competitive football. I’d love him to be part of it.”

Bigirimana was linked with interest from Burnley in March when the Clarets were understood to have made an inquiry about taking him on loan.

Thorn said at the time: “As far as I’m concerned there is no way Gael is leaving the club.

"He’s part of our future here – we’ve nursed him through and he has to stay and develop with us.

“We can’t be getting rid of our young boys and I’m sure that won’t happen.”

Although the player is contracted to the club until June 2014, he will, no doubt, be taking advice from his agent and it remains to be seen whether the club will cash in on one of City’s brightest young players who won the Championship’s Apprentice of the Year award and has been on stand-by for England Under-19s

Get the impression that his main attribute is his athletic ability.

Opposed to what? Playing the flute?

Sounds like he'd be a signing in the Abeid mould, looking a couple of years down the line with maybe the odd cup appearance in the short term.

More signings like this the better IMO, long as there are a few for the first team as well of course.

And yeah, being a Coventry fan sounds rubbish.

Trying to replace Tiote without us noticing?

We do love a midfielder. The young midfielders we have now barely even get on the bench.

Ooooh racism  :frantic:

How did I miss that gem?

My cov supporting mate says he's their version of tiote. Would be a good under study to learn from cheick rather than replace him. No way can cov refuse our bid after being relegated.
