I know f*** all about medicine and science but I think its more to do with the long term effect of heading a ball so much than concussion in the short term How many kids love a header? They can barely kick a ball that high I'll speak to the situation in the U.S.: the quality of coaching at the youth level, save for maybe the elite youth clubs, is still pretty dire (though it's ostensibly improving thanks in large part to Klinsmann's work as technical director). I remember growing up it was very much a 'kick it long and run after it' system that definitely favored bigger, more physical players. So if an unintended consequence of banning headers at a young age forces coaches to teach their kids how to properly trap and control as well as move the ball along the floor, rather than haul off and whip it deep, I'm all for it. These are skills that need to be developed at a very young age. Introduce the aerial game later. Plus I don't think the safety concerns are completely without merit. Does it give kids brain damage? If so then ok let's not make kids head the ball.
