He's also complaining about Brazilian fans booing Spain throughout the tournament as he doesn't understand that the country that invented the Joga Bonito are booing the Joga Bonito from Spain. Such a sore loser, complaining about Brazil playing ugly football too.

I would definitely agree that the referee was lenient towards Brazil, considering they left the pitch without any cards after the number of fouls they committed.

 

Doesn't take anything away from Brazil's performance going forward or their defensive display, it's more a criticism of the ref. He didn't have a great game.

 

Again, if he was lenient towards Brazil, why didn't he give them another two red cards last night? He missed a lot the ref, there's nothing about being lenient, because he also gave a penalty which he could've easily not have given had he been lenient as it was more a a 60/40 challenge rather than 100%

 

But yes I do find it weird that Dani, Oscar and I think it was Paulinho managed to end the game without a yellow card.

Juan Manzur I think his name is. He's actually a very sore loser. Called Brazilian midfielder strong powerful midfielder without any ability and that the best midfielders in the world is Xavi and Xabi. He also thinks Arbeloa and Villa is past it and shouldn't be called up. In my opinion Villa is your best striker, Torres is past it and Soldado doesn't seem to work in this system. Azpi for me is still behind Arbeloa.

No idea who he is. Anyway, I wouldn't expect foreign journalists to know we dropped the "Furia" moniker when this generation came about and we developed our current style, which isn't "furious" at all.

TBF to Torres that pass he gave to Mata before the goal was great though. But he's lost so much pace and dribbling ability that he's always second to the ball. He'll score goals because he's still a footballer but he needs to adapt his game a lot if he wants to play at this level again.

Xavi just can't play so many games every 3 days anymore. He hasn't even done it for Barça this season, where he's usually been rested for the midweek CL ties, so he was nowhere to be seen yesterday.

 

People seem to forget that Brazil had a goal-line clearance and a missed penalty yesterday. For all our suckiness, the result could also have been tighter.

 

I just wish VdB experimented with personnel a bit more. Martínez should have played far more given the season he's had. Heck, his understudy at Bayern tormented us yesterday.

 

Fair enough, but Spain still played a game less than Brazil in this tournament as they could do a lot of changes because of the Tahiti game. To complain about being knackered when playing 60minutes less than Brazil during the tournament isn't really a good excuse especially as Oscar has over the last 18 months played

 

 

 

Nah mate. Any athlete would rather Brazil's schedule than Spain's.

 

I will say Brazil's home advantage is real. Not having the best side also works in your favour as the crowd really supported the team rather than added pressure.

Striker wise i was surprised Soldado was given the nod. I thought he was excellent against Uruguay, him and Fab linked really well. Nando and Villa came in against Tahiti, scored goals but both still looked rusty. Then i thought Soldado had a shocker against Nigeria, think those two one on ones in the first half cost him his place and Torres coming on and looking good, sorted his place out.

 

Nando and Villa are very much in the same boat where injuries have effectively taken their toll on both resulting in a major downslide in form, they have lost that acceleration they both had to beat defenders to the ball and go past them. I think they both have their footballing ability still there but it's so much harder for them to produce it when they have lost a big asset of their game. Villa is definitely still ahead imo and think that stood out when he came on last night. Soldado probably feels hard done by being dropped after Nigeria then not getting another look in, i do like him but i don't think he's good enough at this sort of level.

Had they been a bit better they could've finished off Italy earlier. Spain is the best team in the world but in Euro's last year they didn't really deserve to go through against Portugal and this year Italy was the better team in the semi's. Spain has reached the status of 'The team to beat' so every team knows they have to play at 110% for 90minutes if they even want to have a sniff at winning.

Neymar is clearly talented, but lacks the class of Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Kaka et al to ever be anything great, in my opinion. He's an exciting player though, perhaps a bit different for a top-class Brazilian. I think he has what it takes to succeed in Europe. His work-rate is impessive and he's not the me me me type star you would imagine him to be, he certainly hasn't played like that in this tournament anyway.

 

Regarding Brazil, the were worthy winners against Spain but at times it was like watching England when they were in possession, lots of long balls and lack of ideas on the ball, with no real fluency or cohesion which is simply not like Brazil and shows just how far they have fallen recently.

 

Spain were poor but at times Brazil were afraid of them and you sensed it was like watching a huge underdog against the masters, even the atmosphere on the stands relayed that type of situation which is off for me anyway given Brazil should never feel like the underdog much less play like the underdog regardless of their current status or talent available.

 

Spain will be back and I fancy them again to go very close to winning the World Cup. There players looked tired though and things need freshened up in midfield.

 

Back to Brazil, Fred is very underrated, he's a very good player.

 

Iniesta... sometimes you forget just how good he is, he had an off game but some of his dribbles, touches and play... he's better or was better than Xavi in my opinion.

Don't think you can compare Iniesta and Xavi however a more apt comparison for Iniesta would be Zidane and I think he's better than he was.

 

Different players I know but Xavi is the one more often talked about or considered the better of the two. I can see where you are coming from regarding Iniesta and Zidane but I'd have to disagree, although only slightly.

Perhaps I read it wrong but every little header or even winning a throw in was greeted like a win by the crowd. Spain are a great side, then benchmark at the moment, but this is Brazil, at home.

 

Anyway, it was a very entertaining game and quite fast paced. I'm liking this Brazil side.

As for Iniesta better than Xavi on the night i agree, but Xavi was very poor you could name a lot of players who were better on the night.

 

If you meant comparing the two in general that is a different debate entirely and i can see arguments for both sides.

 

As for Spain giving the ball away constantly, i don't care who you are but if someone is constantly hounding you and giving you no space to breath you will make mistakes.

 

Doesn't matter if you are Xavi or Cattermole, no one likes being pressurised like that.

Think what HTT is getting at is there was none of Brazil's usual overconfident swagger. They respected rather than feared Spain though I would say, both the team and their fans. A combination of a big performance for Brazil and an off day for Spain I think. Fatigue, tactics and the early goal all played a part too.
