Mick, you need to remember that 8th is 1st, 4th round is final and 5th round is winner.

Pardew has seen us go out in the 3rd round 3 times and the 4th round once, in the previous 8 years we went out on the 3rd round twice, 4th round twice, quarter finals once, semi finals once and the final twice.  I don't know how anybody can compare those records and try to make our last 4 years look as if they are normal.

Previous 8 years? What time period are you looking at?

Pardew started in 2010, so the previous 8 years are 2001-2009. Last time we were in the final was 1999.

Not that your point isn't 100% valid though.

You're right.

Genuine question. Has any other manager tried to blame the local media, city and (especially) fans as much as Pardew?

I don't think it's a case of blaming the fans or city, but a reflection of how much he has bought into the (southern) media stereotype of Geordie fans: easily excitable, over-emotional, high expectations, get on the players'/managers'/club's back easily, etc. It's an easy out for any grumbling from the fans, to dismiss it as an overreaction; "You know how those Geordies are..."

I try to avoid reading or hearing anything Pardew has to say but whenever I come across any of his interviews the patronising tone when referring to the fans or city tends to be a constant.

It's the mindsent that I think is prevalent within the club in general.

It's not when we've gone out of the cups under Pardew, it's how. Especially in the FA, games which have been embarrassing, lacking in effort and attitude, utterly disgraceful games.

Am I just remembering this incorrectly but did they not insinuate that 10th place was the minimum acceptable position. I wonder if there are any consequences for not attaining that goal (which tbh I see as very likely). The JFK nonsense though has probably bought this charlatan yet another year, just keep us up and he'll be back to weave his magic next season :(

I don't see any reason to believe that, seems to me more like an honest reaction to what he's experienced at SJP.

Eh? Anyone who's been to SJP knows how much pressure our fans can put on the team at times. This isn't exactly a revelation.

Pressure   Pressure is a soldier going off to Afghanistan, it was going down a pit for a 12 hour shift to put bread on the table.  It's not pressure playing in front of 50,000 people who want you to win a game of football.  If it is then they should find another way of earning a living.
