Murphy played 11 minutes. 3 against Chelsea when you were 4-1 up, and 8 against Sheffield United when you were 5-1 up.

Against Chelsea your back four was Livramento, Schar, Lascelles and Trippier. Dummett was on the bench for this.

Against Sheffield United it was Hall, Burn, Schar and Livramentio. Krafth was on the bench and Dummett was an unused substitute.

You weren't "dipping into Academy." You were giving an academy player a runout. There's a huge difference. Not once did you have to actually rely on Murphy, whereas we were forced to rely on Willy Kambwala. Kambwala played over 600 minutes for us this season despite never playing a minute of senior football before it. Of course he got injured and we then had to start using midfielders at centre back instead.

There is no comparison.

It’s fortunate the likes of Mainoo and Garnacho were able to step-up because the 700m your club spent over last 5 years have been a disaster

bollox.  This conversation has just been on defence as it suits a narrative.  Statistically Newcastles injuries were worse.  This is fact.  This does not include losing Tonali for a season.  On a club that has less than half the resources to spend.

Not fact, as that specific list doesn't include players who were injured before the campaign started. ;)

Unforunate Mainoo was injured for half the season, but fortunate Ten Hag was able to get the best out of them yes.

Agreed on the transfers. Hopefully with competent executives like Berrada, Ashworth and Wilcox, overinflated transfer fees will be a thing of the past.

Bloody Man Utd. Their lowest ever PL finish, we eventually finish above them, then they go and win the FA Cup and secure European football; at our expense to boot. Is your name Kevin @Froggy and do you have a full length sheepskin jacket.

Spoiler

😉

If you want to compare relative investment in squads between  man united and Newcastle, I suggest you look at rolling 3/5 year averages of combined wages plus amortisation.

Newcastle will eventually close gap on those metrics but they are light years apart at present.

Drawing conclusions on the relative  transfer value of the starting 11s in one particular game is utter nonsense

From The Telegraph (Mike McGrath): “Rat demands end to reckless Man Utd spending.”

“Redundancy Ratcliffe will DEMAND Manchester United’s manager to prepare for next season within tight profit and sustainability rules in a SEVERE END to extravagant net spending.”

He really has come in to cost cut, kill jobs, put out some bravado about “biggest club in the world”, use his influence to lobby for a free stadium and be a shield for Glazer criticism. The euphoria surrounding his entrance has proper hoodwinked them. Basically Mike Ashley with a comb over. He’s going about it like he’s gonna’ make a quick profit and flip. So probably more like The Don at Mackems.

On the football side I don’t think he’s got a clue what he’s doing which is evidenced by the circus surrounding their current manager’s status and the situation with our former Sporting Director.

He won’t have though. He will have loaned it, billionaires don’t spend their own money.

He would have got it via Ineos somehow.

OK, well loaning £235m to inject into the club seems an even stranger decision if he's looking to make a quick profit and flip.

Not really. Business people like him can get very low interest rates. Man Utd as a brand will likely keep growing, new TV/streaming rights in the next few years, a new stadium etc. He’ll easily make his money back and more.

Not really. It’s like any business investment - if you can loan at a reasonable rate against a solid asset and invest in something you think will garner larger returns then you’ll do it. His view could well be that the injection of cash will give rise to more rapid returns at a higher yield rather than a passive investment. Just large scale private equity investment.

NB - not saying this is what he’s doing, but it wouldn’t be particularly strange if he was.

edit - what stifler said quicker than me

If that's what he's doing, and he's going to grow the profile of the club quicker and sell, then happy days. It benefits the club either way IMO.

When we are talking injuries, why are we just limiting it to just in defense. In addition, Manchester United have had their 1st choice keeper practically the whole season.

Everyone knows we have had the worse injuries this season. We literally played Sean Longstaff and Miley for like 7-8 consecutive games in CM because there were no other options. Yes they have had their fair share of injuries but to say theirs is worse than ours is laughable on numerous factors.

And we had to play McTominay and Mainoo because Casemiro and Mount were injured, which is the same thing as having to play Longstaff/Miley but looks like it worked out for us simply because Mainoo is incredible. If Miley was even half as good as Mainoo I doubt we'd even discuss this. We going to pretend like Howe doesn't love Longstaff anyway?

There was no area of your team that was devastated anywhere near as much as our defence was which is why it's the topic on hand. I could be wrong, but I believe nobody on your team all year had to play out of position. You always had a player available in their recognised position. We had defensive midfielders at centre back, defensive midfielders at left back, wingers at striker. Jesus Christ we even had to play Antony at left back at one point.

We had the most separate injuries. We had the most individual players injured. We had the most players out injured in a single gameweek. And the "minutes lost" table that people will inevitably share doesn't include players who were injured before the season starts, so add on 3000+ for Malacia and we'll top that list too.

Your injuries, while bad, were not worse.

Happy with the fast action in terms of the club hierachy, not happy with how he seems to like the sound of his own voice. He's mouthy and he's mouthy publicly which I hate.
