Ayozé Pérez (now playing for Villarreal)

Gone backwards massively

Everyone pretty much does at NUFC, though. Only players who come here with genuine quality seem to survive landing on the scrapheap, but even they are never quite the same - see Cabaye.

A month ago we had a great squad ready to storm the Championship and now there's maybe 3 or 4 decent players and everyone else is shit.

One win and everyone will be wanking into their Ayoze pillowcases again. Same goes for most of them.

Which of those conclusions is the funny one though?

It's the middle part.

Not everyone here is a doom monger just because they say what they see. Most sensible folk realised before the season started, and before we started tonking pub teams in pre-season, that this squad was in the grand scheme of things still not particularly good. Those same folk probably also recognised that the Championship today is far more competitive than the last time we were down here - largely because of the money trickling down from the PL.

Against Fulham he looked frustrated about both the lack of quality behind him (3 defensive mids) and the leniency of the referee towards physical defending. The latter issue isn't going away anytime soon.

One thing which really annoys me about flair players is when they give the ball away under pressure instead of drawing a foul. Ben Arfa was good at shielding the ball and Ritchie looks the same. Ayoze has been similar to Thauvin last season in handing the ball over too easy when he's challenged. The refs are blind it's true, but he's still not doing enough to protect possession.

The latter issue was his problem. He was rarely fouled, just muscled off the ball, like he was at the end of last season. Not sure if he's been sussed out or if he's lost the desire ?

Please just put this guy on the left, at least for now. Ritchie on the right.

Can't have him playing off the front man in this league. Getting bullied there.

Has never impressed particularly on the wing either and will run into similar issues where ever he is on the pitch, hes lightweight yes but he doesn't have the bottle and generally gives in on the physical battles, barely challenges for headers.
