The other games today - 2014/15

I know it's a friendly, but I really think the Cup would be in Buenos Aires had Di María been fit for the final.

If he'd been fully fit I would agree, especially with reference to the number of chances the Argies created and squandered without him. Part of me wants him to flop badly with Man Utd but the way he is playing at the moment and has been for well over a year I just can't see it.

Whether he was playing well or not is not relevant really, even in his so called bad performances he was injecting pace and incisiveness into Argentina's attack which was sorely missed.

But having said that Argentina have no one to blame but themselves for their inability to take chances as why they didn't win the WC.

Di Maria or no Di Maria, they still had more than enough chances to win the game. Should also be mentioned that Germany didn't have Reus.

No idea where you're getting this opinion of him not having a great World Cup either

I'm being honest, never thought he was great. He had moments where he shined. Just to be sure I'm not crazy I had to find player ratings only found goal.com which is probably a s*** site but they're with me with for most parts.

Game1:

Game 2:

http://www.goal.com/en-india/match/argentina-vs-iran/1220102/ratings

Game 3 (didn't see this game)

http://www.goal.com/en/match/nigeria-vs-argentina/1220104/ratings

Game 4:

http://www.goal.com/en/match/argentina-vs-switzerland/1220127/ratings

Game 5:

http://www.goal.com/en-tz/match/argentina-vs-belgium/1220136/ratings

Saw some other player ratings that were giving him 5s or 6s for most parts. Which is exactly what I felt he performed at, never really got going imo. (did miss the Nigeria game though, as I was at the other group game being played at the same time) so maybe he was great in that game.

The person that mentions goal.com in a football argument is immediately banned from winning that argument.

Honestly, I think Di María injected a lot of mobility in Argentina's play, and allowed for example Messi to have more space. It's just a silly what-if, I know that Argentina can blame only themselves for losing that final. But when he went down against Belgium I was sure a lot of their chances to win the tournament vanished. Argentina were much easier to contain when he wasn't on the pitch.

Argentina's attacking options outside of Messi were desperately poor at the WC. Everyone was either, off-form, injured, or Rodrigo Palacio. It is a shame because the defence (Once they reached the knockouts and escaped the attackinig fret of Bosnia and Nigeria) and the likes of Mascherano, Biglia, and Perez shone in ways I did not really expect.

Have to agree here.
