I don't think it hints towards us getting a new badge any moreso than all of the other trends do, with most iconography getting dumbed down these days. The simpler and cleaner logos are, the more recognisable they are, and the easier they are to reproduce and emblazon onto any material; from items of clothing, to the menus on your preferred app store.

The NUF badge - along with the one on the Leeds shirt - are marketing Godsends because, not only do they already have that perfect blend of aforementioned attributes - they have the authenticity required to tickle people's tastebuds for retro

It's all very cynical.

That said, it does look quite cool imo. The flicker of colour is a lovely detail which adds something, and I've always quite liked that badge in any case. I wouldn't have any objection to seeing it become a regular thing. If there was no fangs and a more appealing sponsor it would be right up there.

I've spoken about this before, but some club branding needs to meet accessibility standards more than the reasons you've listed. The amount of scale football clubs need to account for is quite far reaching when it comes to brand collateral. Digital, Print, Large Ad Media, etc. all need to be accounted for these days, hence clubs doing a more 'simpler' approach.

Clubs in breach of accessibility laws could face fines if a complaint is filed.

That's interesting and not something I'd considered. It does make me feel a bit less cynical.

Do you think using the NUF badge as opposed to the usual one - or making the usual one monochrome - are examples of this? Adidas removing the text from its logo?

I've never heard of anybody needing to 'access' a club crest. This isn't the Narnia chronicles and touching a badge sends nobody into a tailspin by which they end up inside the wonderful world of Oz.

Is this just football clubs or prem? Who do I complain to that I find a football badge inaccessible and who fines them?

If it’s the Premier League, you can guarantee that they would come down hard on us if someone made a complaint.

I don't think accessibility guidelines would cover a logo or badge, would it? You could add features, like an alt tag, to describe the badge digitally. You wouldn't be legally required to simplify the badge itself.

I think the simplification of badges is part trend and part to make it more nice-looking against a wider range of backgrounds and on various different channels.

Maybe it's a good idea for a few reasons but I doubt it's legally required.

Aye, things like wcag are guidelines not laws, but you'd think any new badge would take accessibility into account, especially when the requirements line up neatly with other requirements: design, brand recognition, production costs.

It's a shame like, much prefer overly flamboyant crests.

I absolutely love our badge, am strongly opposed to a new one and broadly think the NUFC badge is shit. However, for reasons I can’t quite place, I do like its use on the away kit. I suppose it feels fresh and retro at the same time, and not sacrilegious cos it’s just an away shirt. It’s the most interesting thing about the shirt for me and only reason I’d consider buying it.

The monochrome one yes, that's to accommodate fans who are colourblind. Especially it's use in digital fan interactions. That's what the majority of the simplification will be used for, is scaling to the infinite amount of screen sizes digital products are presented on.

You file a human rights complaint with a tribunal as ridiculous as that sounds.  You would need proof that your disability is impacted by club's negligence to make the badge accessible.

Legibility plays a factor in accessibility, it's good practice to be inclusive in design these days. I'd say it's more of a consideration that was non existent previously before the digital age. Any brand studio worth a shit will design a badge to reach as wide an audience as possible. Mobile screens are so dominant these days you'd be negligent in not catering to that scale. Someone COULD file a complaint, it's up to the tribunal to determine impact.

So - and this isn't fully intended as a piss take - do you think it's plausible someone with red green colourblindness could complain about Liverpool playing in a red kit on green grass?

I've no issue with previous club badges / crests being used on kits, nor on the club going down the path of a new design.

Pretty much every big club in England has changed their badge since we last did - some clubs have done so more than once.  Off the top of my head, Man Utd (though this change was only slight), Man City, Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, West Ham, Leeds, Sheff Wed, Derby, Leicester, sunderland, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Wolves, West Brom, etc etc.

I'm one of those who thinks that simpler badges / crests are more aesthetically pleasing - never been completely sold on our city coat of arms-based current design (though I would be moved if there was a proposal to change Newcastle's historic coat of arms).  I'm not advocating getting rid of it, but I wouldn't be particularly moved if it was changed.  I am a big fan of the simple circular badge designs - I think most of those look great.

When Liverpool played Ludogorets about 10 years ago me Fatha reckoned he could only see heads bobbing about the pitch ;D

DHgate specialer turned up.

Seems absolutely sound, got the player version. 3XL as I like em baggy, fits like a normal XL.

I'll spill some gravy on it and wear it around Chadstone this weekend.

I don’t think anyone could complain about a badge, it’s an image which can be made accessible by things like an alt tag which describes what the image contains. It would be like complaining about a drawing or a photo.

It’s good practice to be legible in every thing and digital will be a major driver for people changing badges. But I’d say it’s more a matter of having something that stands out and is easy to use in various context. Not accessibility guidelines.

And in our case it’s using a retro badge, which is probably just because it’s cool.

On the women's pictures they have the third kit with alternative mint green shorts, although I don't see them for sale.

I love the 3rd kit. Might be in the minority but this years home kits not for me, the white "patch" on the back is too jarring to the front (which is decent).

I'll get the 3rd instead of the home and hope the back is improved next season. It might have been better in black in hindsight.

We look like leeds from the back.

They could complain to Skysports or other broadcasters about adjusting contrast ratios to help them differentiate.

When will they release the away jersey?

Maybe this has been expalined or discussed previously so forgive me for overlooking it but why are we not using the club font for the name and numbers and using the PL ones instead? I don't see any other opportunities for us to use it apart from maybe the Carabao or FA Cup, that is if we choose to do so or go further in those competition. Other clubs are using their own font in these pre-season games. Why aren't we?

I am blue / green colour blind, but there was a one of our games I seem to remember was on itv last season and the other team played in stripes. Nothing to do with blue green but I couldnt see a fucking thing or work out who was who. I had to begrudgingly turn it off it as it was messing with my eyes.
