Why would you not at least Google it yourself before doubling down? He gained his fame writing articles defending the concentration camps during this conflict, describing them as "causing the minimum of suffering" whilst there was outrage at home due to the rate of fatalities there. (Only for the white Boer's though, fuck the black South African's). I mean given we were talking about Imperial Japan and their forced labour camps, can we at least acknowledge where they got the idea? And again, was my assertion that the British used them again in the 50’s in the Kenya incorrect?

And we kind of lose all right to complain, given what we as a nation then did again a decade after the end of WW2, in Kenya during the Mau Mau uprising. The whatabouttery doesn’t cut the mustard here - the flag is banned by FIFA for starters; it absolutely is the equivalent of the swastika or the flag of the confederacy for much of Asia. There’s plenty of crimes in the annals of the British empire, no doubt about it. Kitchener was in charge of the SA campaign, and usually gets much of the blame for the concentration camps (though the Second Boer War was not the origin of concentration camps). You’ll have to show me the history books where beheading competitions by British officers took place, or the organised mass rapes. I’m yet to see any serious objections to the UK being represented by the Union flag by those outside of the UK, including those nations which were subject to British rule in the days of empire. Not at all looking to be an apologist for the British Empire - but all things are relative. The club’s media team (or adidas’s, whoever the fuck put that video together) wants shot with shit. Personally, I’d fire them - but then I think having kit launch videos is the most banal and pointless thing imaginable.

Whataboutery is a really easy out these days it seems, read a little bit about the Mau Mau uprising which again occurred in the 1950’s a decade after we'd been appalled by the treatment of our troops by the Japanese and Germans, I’ll give you a brief highlights tour. “Interrogation under torture was widespread. Many of the men were anally raped… Women were gang-raped by guards. People were mauled by dogs and electrocuted.” Men were also castrated, others were tied to Land Rovers and pulverised to death.” And before you think these were small isolated incidents 300,000 people were disappeared in this uprising. This is one incident, similar things were also occurring in Indonesia during the same decade. It clearly seems Operation Legacy was a rip roaring success. The ultimate parent company of McVities (and therefore the Jaffa Cake) is Yıldız Holding in Istanbul, Türkiye. Yıldız is owned by the Ülker family and the chairman, Murat Ülker, is worth over $5 billion. They could absolutely afford it, but it wouldn't make business sense to advertise such a small part of their portfolio.
oldtype
I frankly didn't even notice the Rising Sun flag-thingy and I'm perhaps not as sensitive about it as some Koreans are, but there's really nothing to be gained for the club or Adidas by having it in there so good on them for taking action quickly. BTW, If NUFC would like the services a Korean cultural sensitivity coordinator, I am very available.
