The Dallas Fort Worth area will be the destination for six soccer teams from around the world this July when they’ll play in an international soccer tournament. The clubs will include Newcastle United, Olympique Lyonnais, Pachuca, Swansea City, Malaga and Raja Casablanca between July 9-19.

Nice way to kick off the promotion season.

Local sides are pretty irrelevant. Lack of a non-shit side is not so irrelevant.

Pachuca is probably your best bet for a local fanbase tho. Probably more Pachuca fans in Texas than Dallas fans in Texas.

US tournament on - but no mention of Magpies

From the official Swansea City website, Monday:

Swansea City will prepare for the new Barclays Premier League season by competing in an international tournament in Dallas, Texas, from July 11-19.

Garry Monk’s squad will fly to America for a week’s intense training before going on to compete in the six-team tournament that includes Chivas Guadalajara (Mexico), Olympique Lyonnais (France), Raja Casablanca (Morocco), Pachuca (Mexico) and Malaga (Spain).

The tournament, which groups the Swans with Pachuca and Malaga, will be played at the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas and Toyota Stadium in Frisco. Fixtures and venue draws are to be confirmed.

Claims of this event first circulated in April, when one of the six teams listed was NUFC. However this subsequent confirmation sees Mexican side Chivas Guadalajara added and no mention of the Magpies.

One of the Toon army philly guys went to college there. Not sure if he's happy that it's somewhere he knows, or annoyed that he recently spent 4 years of his life there and now NUFC decide to pop by.

Guy I know works for the Eagles and his opinion was that the clubs make absolutely fuck all from these things. More of an exposure thing than anything. And a bit of merch monies.
