mrmojorisin75
Nothing I've seen from de Jong so far says to me that he's a creator. He seems like the kind of player getting on the end of balls. His movement off the ball seems to be his biggest asset. No idea really about Wijnaldum yet. This. This.
Varadi
Maybe he plans on playing Aarons there when Haidara isn't fit. Captain Jack always an option too.

Mole_Toonfan
Creativity usually gets narrowed to vision, dribbling ability and passing range. I do agree though, intelligent off the ball movement is just as likely to create a chance than any of those things. Shock and horror we have had no decent off the ball movement in the team for god knows how long, De Jong and Wijnaldum at least seemingly provide that whether it actually comes together is another question entirely. Clearly Chicane is talking about a player who creates with the ball at his feet, I.e. picking through balls and so on, being inventive with the ball and creating for others. De Jong is not that type of player, that's all, but yeah there can be creativity in simple passing and moving but it would rely on other people too so in that respect he's not individually creative. I started this conversation originally by stating we did have creative players, De Jong included. He's creative because of his good movement. That's the crux of it. Yes we could do with a Cabaye but give me a more all rounded player like Wijnaldum any day. We have plenty to work with.
mrmojorisin75
We have plenty to work with. We do. Our priorities now have to be: Finalise Mbemba Sign someone to play with him Sign a good utility defender who can cover fullback Get rid of 2 of Willo, Saylor & Colo, preferably all Get the fucking defence to function and stop conceding goals for fun . . . Buy a winger or another striker

DJ_NUFC
Is it too soon to start getting worried about Ayoze being relegated to the bench or misused in a dodgy position? I really don't think we need Austin at all, and Perez, Cisse, Mitrovic are good enough for now (with the hilarious Arma and Riv as 'backup'). We need to spend Austin's money on another first-team CB and a LB cover.
Mole_Toonfan
He'll probably be on the bench regardless, He's not gonna start as a CF ahead of Mitrovic or AM ahead of De Jong. Should be remembered that neither were there last season for one reason or another, although he'll still play loads considering he's probably right behind De Jong in the AM pecking order and we are all very aware of his injury record. Mole_Toonfan
Said this before, but i genuinely believe the club got Perez as a long term De Jong replacement ( ) they saw De Jong as the next guy they could get for cheap, move on as a massive profit and then Perez would sneak in there in a couple of years time. They obviously didn't think that Perez would be this good so quickly and De Jong wouldn't spend the entire season on the treatment table. Could be a massive conspiracy on my behalf but yeah. Scoot
Talking about diamond formation, 4-4-2 and overlapping fullbacks in the Charlie Austin thread? Yeah nobody is assuming he's going to sign. Of course not yeah, ok.
Mole_Toonfan
We could do that anyway, seeing as we have no wingers apart from Aarons and it would put Sissoko in his natural position and allow Perez to start.
Darth Crooks
Saying how he may work in our team is not the same as assuming he's signed is it?

That's the crux of it. Yes we could do with a Cabaye but give me a more all rounded player like Wijnaldum any day. We have plenty to work with. Not trying to beat a dead horse here but just thought I'd reply to clear up what I meant. This was the post I saw that you replied to, to which I was replying: We need some f***ing good service from somewhere, and not just from one/two positions.. To me, that clearly implies someone who can deliver the pass/cross to those in space. And I don't think that is de Jong. From what I've seen, anyway. Of course you can say de Jong is creative in the sense that his movement creates passing/crossing opportunities and that his movement opens space for others to exploit. I agree with that. It's hard for any player to provide service (and thus be what I termed a 'creator') if nobody is moving which is a problem we certainly had last year. I'd actually be quite curious to see Cabella and de Jong in the same team, I can't remember if they played together in the few games Siem played in last year, because I think Cabella suffered partly from that there was nothing moving around him. Not trying to absolve him of any criticism as I think he vastly underperformed but it's something I'd like to see. Similarly though, it's all well and good showing great movement and making great runs off the ball but if you don't have someone with the vision and technical ability to play the right ball into them then it's all for naught. Sissoko naturals position. Still can't work out where he favours to play to be honest. He's blown hot and cold in every position he's been asked to play since signing for us. What is His "preferred position" exactly.

Trouble is we have rarely tried it and when ever it went wrong under Pardew he'd stop it ( that goes with anything really), impossible to get any sort of continuity when every time something doesn't go well you scrap it. Possibly but like I said, he's blew hot and cold in all the positions he's playedat so I just can't make my mind up where he's comfortable playing at. Yet he thinks he should be playing Champions league football. Slightly deluded.
Mole_Toonfan
He's an inconsistent player by nature tbh, not sure that will ever change. As for CL, you won't find a footballer who thinks differently he just happens to be more outgoing with his views.
