AyeDubbleYoo
Problem is we needed to sign some protection for the back 4 first of all. Tiote and Shelvey barely offer more than Anita and Colback for that.

TRon
If he's playing as a 2 in a 4-2-3-1 then he's going to have to do his fair share of defending instead of watching the ball go past him while pointing and shouting at teammates. Tiote goes haring around the pitch and Shelvey is incapable of snuffing anything out in the middle once Tiote does that. I'm not advocating dropping him as he's clearly the best passer but his positioning and his immobility is terrible when defending and I'd advocate playing Saivet alongside Tiote with Shelvey in the middle Was about to say something similar to Ashley17. I don't mind Shelvey being the middle of the three behind the striker. From there he can really open things up for those around him. Leave Tiote and Saivet to mop up and do the simple passing. That would make sense. If Saivet didn't spend 90 mins sat on the bench.

For Stoke I would definitely play a 3 of Shelvey, Tiote and Saivet, with Sissoko and Townsend on the wing with Mitrovic up front and hope we can nick a draw or win

Agree with this and I think we'll see it at Stoke. Colback will be in at left back, unless Dummett is fit. In which case, Colback will be playing instead of Saivet. An orthodox 433 seems like the way to go away from home. Beef up the middle of the park, and have Sissoko and Townsend help out the fullbacks when needed. Shelvey can play a bit more advanced with 2 sitting behind him. It's only slightly different to what we're currently doing with Wijnaldum in the hole supporting Mitrovic, but at least Shelvey can spot the killer pass whereas Wijnaldum doesn't seem to create much from those areas. We don't really need proper width since we can't cross for shit.
Leazes_End_Mag
Could be unpopular opinion time but I would definitely drop Wijnaldum for Stoke away and push Shelvey further forward with Saivet and Tiote screening the back 4. The tactics and set up for away games this season has been horrific and clearly isn't working with Wijnaldum being the biggest luxury on the pitch for the majority of them. AyeDubbleYoo
Wijnaldum and Sissoko both need to feel their places are under threat really. Drop Wijnaldum for Saivet and maybe Sissoko for Perez.

Disco
Shelvey will automatically be a target for additional criticism because even when he's shit he still looks to get on the ball and play non-safe passes unlike every other CM we have. He'll be a trget for additional criticism because when he's shit he does't put in much effort off the ball. Same with Moussa.
Ash
Frustrating seeing this guy blame everyone else around him - even does it when he messes up. Otherwise known as Danny Simpson syndrome.

AyeDubbleYoo
Those players are OK to play with when things are going well, but fucking awful when they aren't.
mozy
What we need is some nutcase leader who rants and screams until people actually listen. We have none of that, our lot barely even talk to each other. No wonder Shelvey is pissed off.
Bimpy474
Playing away at Chelsea it might be an idea not to set up a wide open as a nun's knickers. We did the complete opposite of keeping tight for the first 20 minutes. Utterly daft tactics from the manager, the players need to be blamed as well mind. There's no excuse for being unable to do the basics, and Shelvey was right up there not be able to pass it 5 yards.

Jayson
What we need is some nutcase leader who rants and screams until people actually listen. We have none of that, our lot barely even talk to each other. No wonder Shelvey is p*ssed off. I said it in the match thread the other day, people have a go at his pointing. Half the time he's just telling the lad on the ball whos available to pass to based on what he can see, hows that being a dick? Its a bit controlling like, but they dont have to listen to him & ultimately he's attempting to help. Him, Townsend & Sissoko are the least for our issues for me. Thats a very good combination of great passing ability & fast runners on the wings. We should be focusing elsewhere.
Hanshithispantz
I think his pointing is fine, it's his reactions to people losing the ball/not seeing him when in space that annoys me.
Bimpy474
Eh? His passing was completely fine. Except that 5 yard pass he just plopped up for them that they nearly scored from, he was just poor as everyone else in a poor team performance. I do like him though, at the moment he's just part of our general crapness away from home.
Guest firetotheworks
I'll leave this one to Hans, as I'm in complete agreement and haven't a clue why anyone's singling out Shelvey from that performance when to me he was probably the only player who could hold their head up high.
