LoveItIfWeBeatU
He has my respect for giving it a go. Thanks for trying. I hope he stays but I can understand if he doesn't want to.
sempuki
Maybe a 10% chance of him staying at best. He'll be in demand and Ashley won't give him enough.
James
In a short time he's made us hard to beat. If he'd had a month more we would've picked up draws and been absolutely fine. Reality is our attacking players just have absolutely nothing to offer, there's no right team selection or formation that would solve the issue, the players we've signed over the last few seasons in that area of the pitch just aren't fit for purpose. Exactly this.
Ronaldo
Can't wait to see the cringey 'please stay Rafa' banners next week. What's cringey about doing so, the gesture will be appreciated Yeah. A bed sheet will be the decisive factor in Champions League winner Rafa Benitez's career.

Do think Cathro might be the new Chris Hughton however. No idea if he's any good or wtf he does. But we might as well just roll the dice next season as well. nufcjb
Got it awfully wrong today. Kept faith with a team that was barely just getting the job done. Gini shouldn't have played. What was the point in trusting Cisse when you bring him off 5 minutes of the 2nd half. Going with 2 holding midfielders against the league's worst team was wrong when it needed Ayoze, SDJ or even Shelvey creating chances and run at the defence. He'll know he got it wrong. Wallsendmag
Hope those who turn up next week at least give him a good send off. God he tried but as the old adage goes, you can't polish a turd.

At least he puts the ball in the net.
duo
No way will he stay - He'll be off to Everton - it's a tale of what could have been. We'll never get a manager of his quality again - that's what hurts most.

St1pe
I think he'll be off but it wont be to Everton. He doesn't seem the sort that would manage a rival of a club he has a massive affiliation to.

Big Geordie
Was too cautious from the off today, but once again - his bigger name players let him down. I'd love him to stay, to take us back up - but it's not going to happen. Ashley won't pay the wages, or give Benitez the control he would want. Thanks for giving it a go, Rafa. You've done your best, but been let down.
Bimpy474
Him staying (fwiw i think he will) will depend on what he's allowed to do in the summer. If he's given free reign then he's staying.

Guest Howaythetoon
I'm thinking the Norwich and Liverpool away games played on his mind with this one, the objective was to keep a clean sheet and then try and nick a win like against Palace last week. In hindsight our approach was all wrong today and Rafa can be faulted for that, but I honestly don't feel with this set of players we would have raced into a comfortable lead or been able to strike early and hold out. Poor Rafa, he is far too good for us. I truly hope he doesn't stay on if we go down because I now want us to crash and burn.

There is one thing i didn't get though, Perez, then Wini and finally Sissoko as the number 10, yet at no stage did he try the proper number 10 in De Lung. Don't think it would have mattered but why not try him.
