Well, strictly speaking, if you look only at things that have happened, it has been pretty shit, we're weaker than we were at the start of it.

He'll stay but having said that, if we signed Rashford, Asensio and Felix, I'd suggest something might be happening.

 

He's great, and vital to how we play, but then again, he's also 29 and if someone waves 60m at us, then you've got to think, is there something worth considering here?

 

Also, his goals and assists figures are awesome, but fuck me, I don't know how he manages that AND manages to miss so many easy chances.

Interesting how Villa, who I consider pretty parallel to us in terms of FFP position, good managers, similar quality squads, ambitious etc........ are very happy to do loans and 2 of their first 11 are from free transfers, while we seem to hate the idea of loans and our only free transfer is getting sold 6 months later

Villa are quite proactive, whereas we, by comparison, like to sit on our hands and wait for the perfect transfer to fall into our laps.

Probably paying him £200-250k a week. Unless Rashford suddenly decides he can be arsed again and puts some effort in. It seems like a bit of a waste and a big gamble. 
 

If he starts tearing it up again. You’d be worried about then paying £40m and a salary that would destroy the current wage structure. As he has so much previous form of seemingly downing tools and having a good season, followed by a terrible one. 
 

If he magically starts playing well. You’d have to question his character. Couldn’t be professional and try at his boyhood club on 350 bags of sand a week. But rocks up at Villa and decides he’s a footballer again. 
 

It’s a real shame what happened to him. Always rated him and thought he was going to be a top player.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Rashford. If they get him back to playing in a position he’s familiar with and he’s approaching it as a point to prove under Emery I reckon it’ll take off for him. 
 

If he gets back to what he can do £40m is cheap - wages maybe not so. If it doesn’t work he goes back to Man U. It’s a good risk/reward for me.

Yeah, you and a lot of others on here know a lot more about FFP/PSR than me, but based on the figures out the other day, they seem fucked. Not sure how they can afford this.

I think it's important to recognise when it comes to those figures to point out they are estimates and not official numbers accounts for that period haven't been published. 

 

Villa are also playing the FFP game in the opposite way to us, they are aggressively trading players and doing academy graduate swap deals for daft money.

Aye, I’m not a massive fan of any of their deals tbh, however Ramsey, Watkins, Rodger’s, Rashford and Asensio, Malen and Bailey gives them depth we can only dream about.

Yeah I'm not exactly excited about a lot of those names, that being said it's much more than what we have at present. I think they will have a headache next season though don't think they have the finances to support so many players. Maybe they will end up cashing in on Rodgers, but as I quipped about Brighton yesterday you can't keep selling your best players and hope to continue to compete at the highest level.

Between Malen, Rashford, Asensio and Felix that could pay off massively if they click.

It’s an insane amount of wages, on players who are a mixture of hot/cold and aging.

 

It’s the type of deals people thought we would do, and I’m glad we haven’t done. Good for 2 months, then left with him for many more months afterwards.

Their style of play also utilises speed and ball carrying effectively in their transitions. They are going to have a lot of that available, with bodies to come on when others are floundering.

 

Emery also appears to have the temperament to deal with 'characters' let's call them.

 

Thought he handled Duran well. Even at Arsenal he also managed Aubameyang well, who Arteta was quick to jettison. Danjuma at Villarreal, who has done nothing outside of his really good stint with Emery. Tielemans looked heavy and slow when he first joined and was hardly used but has turned it around.

 

From a competitive standpoint that is the concern. I think Emery is quite comfortable working with these types, and it's exactly why they are going for them.

I'm in a conundrum with Villa - can't stand the club but at the same time I want them to mess with the status quo. Same as Forest (bit of a Derby fan, so that's particularly tough). With Villa the optics are good looking from the outside, that's for sure.
