Brighton will come out of that little exchange very well.

And are Spurs about to spend £60m+ on Savinho too? Insane stuff.

Personally think Spurs are on the fast track to fucking themselves in a new form. They’ve gone from scrimping and toiling over deals with Levy to properly opening the taps. Unfortunately, they’ve opened the taps so far that they’ve snapped them and we’re witnessing the great flood

If this goes thru it better get marked down with what ever financial rules we are using now. After all villa couldn’t buy Osula after we bought Ramsay as it was getting marked down as a player swap

Different rules for us though init

Yeah there’s a little bit of me that’s a bit nervous about that. You just have to hope that RDZ knows what he’s doing, and then that there’s enough other adults in the room who know what they’re doing.

Like all transfer things though, there’s a lot of getting worked up over tweets. Our “great flood” currently is three players for £52M.

Just so I’m clear about our financial arrangement with Romano - how much are we paying him to unsettle our own players?

The fact Brighton want him would set alarm bells off for me. They're not in the business of keeping players long term. They clearly see a potential profit in flipping him and if their offers is genuinely 45m then you can bet they'll be asking for double in 2 years time.

Oh yeah, we know. He’s in a very specific situation. A 19-year old who we have under contract for a while and who just had a very good season in the Bundesliga but is probably not quite ready for the Premier League. He wants games and we can’t really give them to him yet. Ideally we’d loan him out for one more year but he and/or his agent want to accelerate the process and this is Brighton’s best chance to make this happen.

We definitely don’t want to sell but at some point the offer might be tempting. There’s a non-zero chance this kid is worth £100M in five years.

Surely reporting stuff based on who pays you is terrible in itself

It could be worse.

You could be Luke Edwards acting as Steve Bruce's fluffer for a decade for absolutely no financial or professional benefit.

If a player is really talented, I don't think they should wait years for him to make the team. Rayan became a regular at Bournemouth at 19, we didn't buy him, Szoboszlai was able to fit in quickly and plays almost every game, Archie Gray, Semenyo were able to fit in immediately, or Simons, Mbeumo, etc.

Yes but there are a couple of issues there. There’s a reason I pointed out how specific his situation is.

Szoboszlai was 22/23 when he started playing for Liverpool. Semenyo 23 with Bournemouth. Rayan is young of course - but they didn’t just make the team because they have talent. They made the team because they were the best players in their position. Vuskovic himself said he wasn’t ready last year. He and/or his agent may think he’s ready now, but that doesn’t mean they’re right. And right now, he’s almost certainly not better than four of our CBs. That’s precisely the problem.

Also none of your examples are defenders. There’s a really glaringly obvious example that you do not cite. Saliba was signed by Arsenal at 18. He was immediately loaned back to St Etienne, then went on loan to Nice, then spent another year on loan at Marseille. He was 21 when he properly joined the Arsenal team. That would mean two more years on loan for Vuskovic.

I’d love him to wait just one more year - hopefully then he’ll be one year better and we’ll have Europe to give him more games. I’m pretty confident that’s what the club thinks too. All we’re seeing now is the tension in this specific situation and another club hoping to exploit that to get a bargain.

I agree with that, but it doesn't make sense to buy players who don't represent an improvement in quality at very high prices.

Not sure what your argument is here. Vuskovic agreed to join us when he was 16, then we signed him at 18 for less than £10M, supposedly it may rise to £12M. Brighton want to buy him because - like you say - they think they can sell him for £80M+ in a couple of years and he might be able to start for them now.
