Found it mental he was slating his team mates to an absolute nobody on the airport

I don't. He's part of the problem and he'll be gone as soon as we can find someone stupid enough to take him.

There must be a misunderstanding here.

Say I join Man Utd on £100k. We miss out on CL football so my salary goes down to £75k the next season. If we miss the CL again, what is my salary then...?

I'm not sure what way it works. I'd assume a 25% reduction on the 75k, or a contract renegotiation to a new base wage.

The clause is very real though, and has been well reported for a long time. At least 6-7 years.

So a player who signed for a contract on 100000 per week five years ago will be on around 40000 next season?

They would just renegotiate their contract though, but it gives us bargaining power in the negotiations.

I do know the ins and outs of how this works, but I promise you that clause is real.

Sorry, but nothing you say will convince me of that.

I don't need to. It's been reported by every journalist close with the club for years. It's reflected in the club accounts. You can see it.

It's almost certainly still £75k then it'd go back up to £100k if CL qualification was achieved. It might reduce further but there'll be a lower limit to how far it can drop.

Likewise it wouldn't go £100k > £125k > £156k > £195k > £244k if we kept qualifying.

Yeah could be something like this. Most reports just suggested that the players agents would just renegotiate the contract.

I genuinely don't know. It's just certain that the clause exists. Pretty black and white based on one season in or out of the Champions League, but probably more nuanced when it comes to multiple years.

I don’t think the clause is that complicated. It should be just like

1. If qualified for CL, 100K

2. If not, 75K

so Man Utds players already earning the lower level salary and it won’t reduce further.

I do agree that several players leaving could free up a lot of salary

Aye, ask Onana. Apparently going mental about it and wanting sold.

The squad are paid massive wages to get us into the Champions League, why would they revolt when they've failed to do so? Especially the likes of Onana who was solely responsible for us going out of the CL the year before, and largely to blame for the goal that lost us the final.

It's a well documented clause, but doesn't look like it's in play any more with new signings and renewals.

I understood this clause that there is a basic wage, and it is slashed 25 % when there is no UCL and raised 25 % when there is. Not that it keeps cutting it every year after year.

Exactly, so the wages in their books for last year are likely to be the wages on their books for this year, not another 25% off.

Potentially. I'm not 100% sure, but all the reports seemed to suggest it's on a season by season basis, but that players are free to renegotiate their contracts.

If/when players sign new contracts, they are likely reported by the media. New contracts usually are longer but I haven't seen this.
Might be, no idea but I know this kind of clause is used or was used a lot by ManU

FWIW, the transfer flow (run by the guy who used to own StatsBomb) reckon Cunha to Man Utd won't work out at all and will be another expensive mistake. He's massively over performed his xG this season (to Messi/Ronaldo levels) and is highly unlikely to repeat it next season, and is poor value for money at £60+ million as his profile (statistically speaking) isn't significantly better than Garnacho and Rashford's at Villa

It's a girl from America who wrote that article. We all know girls and Americans know absolutely nothing about football. Right @Mike?
