Got me thinking about poor old Pele and how all his defining moments have been misses. (shot from halfway line inches wide, the dummy round the keeper then hitting it wide, and Banks' save).

True. Look on the bright side though. Maybe 'almost in' helped get him his advertising gig later in life?

Erik Edman at anfield, still one of my favourite goals ever

Yeah I was going to say that one but wasn't sure if many would remember it

Jagielka scored an unreal goal at Anfield a few years ago too

Maybe not internationally but whenever I think of Klinsmann I think of that goal v Sheff Wed in the purple kit with the dive and Ian Walker sprinting 80 yards to join in.

It's actually pretty rare the more you think about it.

Can't say Bergkamp because there are two.

Love Beckham, but his kick at Simeone is probably more memorable for many than any one goal he scored.

It's easier to name players who scored only a few goals in their career but one was a screamer/memorable rather than players who scored loads.

Even the Zidane v Leverkusen one is questionable I think because he scored 2 iconic World Cup final goals on home soil
