Kanj Posted Sunday at 12:51 Share Posted Sunday at 12:51 (edited) Not sure there’s a better CB we’ve had in the PL era. His durability, all around defending, his passing and attacking play. He’s so insanely underrated by the media it’s not even funny. maybe it’s just my age talking these days, but I find it very difficult to imagine our next era without some of these guys who’ve been with us over the last years. 7 for Fab feels longer in my head! Better players - basically Woodgate or peak Colo - but none who have made the same impression as Fab for so long, not even close now. Only Howey and Albert can run him close for being mainstays of the 94-97 team.

AyeDubbleYoo
I don't think Colo is anywhere near Schar TBH, Woodgate is close or better on ability but on overall contribution this lad has to be the GOAT.
Lenny
I preferred peak Colo, but for longevity, Schar's pretty much out in front.

Peak Colo isn’t better at anything versus peak Schar except his close control. Schar is a better defender and contributes far more going forward. To say Colo at his best, i.e. the season he was in the premier league team of the season, playing for a vastly less organised team, has nothing at all on Schar, is frankly extreme bollocks. Either way, regardless of attribute comparison, I preferred watching Colo play to watching Schar play (whom I also enjoy watching).

AyeDubbleYoo
I’m just generally not attached to any of the players from the Ashley era really. It wasn’t a time to love footballers. (Except Hatem obvs)

He was poor in his first season when we got relegated, but the Championship season and beyond he was pretty good - he got in team of the year in 11/12. He also gave the best performance by an NUFC CB I can remember at Sunderland away, probably until Burn in the final.
