Manchester City 2 - 1 Newcastle United - 01/09/18 - Post-match reaction from p17

Performance was about as good as this squad is going to get against this opponent and without Shelvey. If Ki was instead a quality Premier League signing that cost actual money and not a free backup then maybe you have a little bit more of the ball and create a few extra chances.

This, for our entire squad.

Add a left back who is decent on the ball/going forward and we're instantly more likely to create chances. Add a striker who can control, move, and finish moderately well at PL level and we're a dangerous side all of a sudden. Add a number 10 who can actually play like a number 10 and retention shoots up.

Unfortunately for us all of these things cost good money, a level of spend we're not willing to achieve even though we can. We'd rather pay peanuts and get monkeys (hard working ones albeit).

Not sure if this would even be legal in any other sport

Any pundits have the fucking bare faced cheek to expect other teams to go toe to toe with them.

Jesus

I thought 27m was a steal as well

Not the pasting that many of us feared. Today we were disciplined at the back - ball retention could have been better, but we were still in the game until the end. We've played of 3 the top 6 in the first 4 games, and each one has been close. That goal difference could again become vital at the end of the season.

No shame today.

Also fair play to the presenter for saying after FT that they'd 'assess the performances of City and United after the break'.

BT put Sky Sports to shame like, you are right.

When it started BT was awful, but they've gotten far better. As long as they don't wheel out Savage and Owen they're miles ahead of Sky and much prefer it if they cover our games.

What a depressing match. Just due to the difference in resources.

We battled our fucking hearts out. But for a Bramblesque error and a screamer we'd have been well in for a positive result.

I left the pub when the match finished. Is Rafa a disgusting excuse of a human being for combatinf Man City in the best way possible when the players are a tenth of the worth? Crumpy?

Rio's done a few KBA talks like.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt, he might think he's making a good point because you would presume that Ashley is investing when in fact he's not even letting the club spend what it earns, OR pay back his loan that were a result of his mismanagement anyway, let alone invest anything.

This whole 'investment' nonsense is the main thing that needs to be corrected imo.

Man City should be ashamed of winning by only one.

He said he was playing devil's advocate and for some of the bollocks he spouted was pulled up by Jenas and the presenter tbf. Doubt he's a Bishop pawn

Yeah, it seems very unlikely tbh. He still keeps making the point about it being Ashley's own money though, it's infuriating.

Doubt he's as informed and knows the ins and outs of the Ashley regime as Jenas and Humphrey are, who's Twitter mentions will be usually consisting of Newcastle fans.
