I hope he secures a move to somewhere he'd like to live with his young family, play some football for the remainder of his career and be happy. And I hope he starts a game before he goes and we get the Wor Miggy flags out for him and give him the send off we should do.

Not really arsed where he ends up once his contract runs out tbh. He's been a good servant and never let us down. He also got well paid for it and being at Newcastle has set him up for life, so we've done alright by him as well. Would have been nice if we'd got big wedge for him last summer, but not to be.

Damn, you’re just all business.

He’s got a point. He’s tried hard and been a decent servant, but also paid £70k a week by all accounts. I think a transfer where we get a fee is reasonable for all parties.

No issues with what Tron said but there can be a little room for some sentimentality.

edit: more in regards to the I don’t care where he ends up part.

I sort of lost any sentimentality as he's stuck around and refused a lucrative move to Saudi. Yes I know he's well within his rights, but that's the point. He has rights to stick to his contract, we likewise don't owe him anything once he's run it down. Like I said, a good player for us down the years, one of my favourites for a while actually. I actually hope he goes to an MLS club this summer and we can get some sort of half decent fee, and he gets the move he wants. Best scenario all round.

So I wouldn't be surprised if he sits tight til the summer when there'll be more options and likely more lucrative signing on fees knocking about.

MLS preseason is about to start, so that plays into it too.

Is the 5-10 million just to allow teams from  back home to be able to afford him?

Surely the lads worth more than that ?

31 next month and 18 months left on deal I think and no longer a first team starter I  can see why the price has dropped.

We don't know how solid the offers have been last 2 windows but maybe the club have accepted to get the player interested in a deal and his new club to afford wage demands then we take the hit to move him on.

Frees up wages and assume his balance on the books is now minimal.

I agree and I know Saudi is not the answer for everyone but I do wonder in hindsight if a better option would have been to go there for a year like Maxi and then get the move he wanted.

It just shows how quickly your stock drops when your purple patch finishes or the manager gives up on you

He's never wanted a move tbf. He got everything he wanted right here.

Clubs can't have it both ways, sellers want as much as possible and buyers as cheap as , at the end of the day compromise will be the end product.

Agreed- everyone’s trying to sell on old prices a few years ago but trying to buy to keep in line with PSR. It’s not sustainable and something needs to give eventually.

If we have another January, and another summer window of a lack of sales, then PSR and UEFA’s FFP will go.

Even the media will turn against it, as it’s depriving them of sales and clicks. Sky Sports for example won’t be happy because last January, their biggest transfer story on deadline day was Lewis Hamilton switching manufacturer.

Sky pay the Premier League, and to a lesser extent the EFL, and SPFL a fortune, and if the period of speculation is over, then they will not be happy.

It's hard to sell off unwanted players on premier league wages. Clubs have to allocate more of the overall fee to wages than the transfer.

especially if they don't want to go

We’ve got to be pretty ruthless in our business and if that includes “reasonable” sweeteners to make it happen, so be it. Miggy and Targett really need moved on somehow and as for Isaac Hayden, I mean, good luck to him but, jeez, that contract he’s got.

We need to get ahead of the game with PSR and know where we’ll be in any 12 month period (or more).

We can’t be left in another situation where we’re touting players we’d rather keep in a come and get ‘em frenzy to meet requirements.

Easy to say, very hard to do.

In a playing capacity or more administrative?

Playing. As he’s a DM maybe he didn’t see him fitting in. He’s not better or worse than Longy though. He had a knee injury and then had to have it cleaned up as there were still bits of cartilage floating around in there, seemed to have knocked his career for 6.
