Lush Vlad
So he’s missing those 3 big games we need him in due to injury. Not a couple of them because of his expected yellow card ban. Hope he’s back soon. Not sure that system will work every week and we don’t really have anyone else to play LCM. Willock is horribly out of form.
80
It might do us some good to have to play without him, to be honest.

Lush Vlad
Someone needs to step up in his absence. As I’m still not convinced we have anyone able to cover his LCM role. Willock so out of form it’s untrue. Longstaff is poor there and I’m not a fan. Miley is still a kid. But it does feel like he deserves a chance now. I guess we were going to rotate this weekend regardless. I also think the sort of 5 at the back will be used against City. But it won’t work against Forest. So it would be good if someone could step up and really shine in midfield in Joe’s place. Because would it be worthwhile playing him for final minute of one of games to get a yellow card so he’s then clear of it for his return?
Sibierski
Do think this should and will be Miley breakout moment when he stakes a legit claim for LCM spot. Think it’s easily forgotten how good he was last season, for what he came into and produced, in biggest games. If he was a top 6 media club, the narrative would’ve been in overdrive. Shak
(Assuming Botman is fine...) I'd like to see us give Hall a run at LCM with Burn at LB and see how it goes. Solves the CB issue. Botman has to come back into the team but Burn has been wonderful all year and doesn't really deserve to lose his place so he moves to his old LB role. This allows us to to back to the system of shifting into a back three when in possession, which has the knock on effect of giving our three midfielders more freedom to get forward as they have three sitting defenders behind them rather than two. The more freedom we can give Sandro to roam the better and this facilitates that. I'd also be intrigued to see a left footed player in the LCM role in that system. Both Willock and Joelinton have previously done a great job of getting wide from that position and providing an overlap but obviously neither of them are much of a threat to get to the byline and whip in a dangerous ball on their left. Hall is a different story, putting him in that spot I believe has the potential to give us a massive boost in terms of our ball retention from the midfield three (something Joelinton is always going to struggle with) while also not really sacrificing much in terms of the width that Hall has provided at LB as he'll still be providing it from that LCM spot. gazza ladra
Stick with a back three if Botman is healthy.

LFEE
Is it not worth selecting him in the squad next league game and come on very late and get booked? Serve his two games injured.

Serve his two games injured. It is. He doesn’t even need to make it on the pitch. We can just get him to hold on to a ball.

Get him to do a Lascelles on the sideline and get a yellow without even coming on Usually until April time for the 10 yellows. Guessing it is roughly 3/4 of the season. Not sure on the exact number of games.

Not for me. I don’t think Hall has the athleticism to play that role and the covering required. Especially if it is Burn at left back. I thought at times last night when he was coming inside. He didn’t have the legs to then slot back into the LB role off the ball ala Joelinton/Anderson when they played in a similar’ish role. I also just don’t want to see Burn again at left back if we can avoid it. He has been great at CB. He was mainly poor at left back all of last season. I think last night’s formation gives us another option against the big teams or those that want a lot of the ball and we can press high. But then also drop off and sit in deep. Obviously it won’t be so unexpected and in time. There will be more film to study of it. But you’d like to also think we’ll improve for playing it more and also have different personnel to bring in. Like Tino and Big Joe.

It doesn't seem the worst idea seeing as Hall fancies himself as a midfielder anyway. It allows us to keep the balance of the team if nothing else. Might be better than shoehorning a right footed midfielder who doesn't feel comfortable there. Willock would have been the obvious choice, but he's really looked off the pace since his comeback. Like Tino and Big Joe. Agree with all of this. It was stiff competition for Hall. But he didn't have much presence in midfield and when he was meant to get to LB - he was slow in doing so. In the final - praying everyone is fit and available - I think all of Joelinton, Botman, Burn, Schar, Hall start. I don't know how but those are all Howe's favourites (well one isn't a bonafide favourite). Liverpool are a big side and Spurs are vulnerable from set-pieces. As great as Trippier was, I don't fancy him against Son and probably not against any Liverpool winger either.

Have those five ever started a game together? We dropping Bruno or Tonali? Or just putting one of those lads at RB?

Burn at LB is obviously not ideal, used to drive me mental at times, but I do think Hall's ability on the ball in CM would be a huge asset versus what we'll get if Longstaff goes in there. Maybe Howe will give Miley a run there but I'd be surprised.

Or back to the back 5/3-4 set up. Edited February 6 by Lush Vlad

Miley seems more of a Bruno swap out for me, not sure he's really suited to pulling out wide like Joelinton does. Never really seen him out on the left tbh.
