If we were undecided as a club if Willock should be sold, this month has made up their minds IMO.

Not good enough for XI but then not reliable enough as a squad option.

I never understood trying to sell a relatively young player on a low-ebb for cheap unless desperate for money.

Injury prone contract expiring, not that young anymore etc.

When is his contract expiring?

Never mind, just checked and there's a couple of years left so not going to be leaving for a pittance.

Yeah so basically this summer it's shit or get off the pot.

It's a no brainer sale for me, obviously contingent upon us replacing him.

When the "low-ebb" has lasted longer than his high performing period then yes.

Agree, already said last week that I have no problem selling Willock and using that money to buy an understudy for Joelinton. Willock has a lot of attributes, but he's out for long periods, then when he does come back in he's had little impact.

2 years left.

I would send him out on loan and extend the contract by a year to try and increase his value. Ideal world.

Your solution makes little sense in practical terms. If you send him out on loan we need a replacement, may as well sell him and buy a replacement for him.

It depends on the financial need to sell.

Roman Chelsea did that model, but they also didn't need the cash upfront.

We need a better CM regardless of what we do with Willock.

Will need to be a midfielder who can pull wide left as well if we are looking for someone to step in for Joelinton. Willock has been underwhelming this season when he's been fit, but we don't really have anyone else in the current squad who can do it. Unless you count Lewis Hall.

Our left centre mid role is quite a challenging role to play

Joelinton dominates the whole left side of the pitch, high up and also tracking far back to support the left back. And he's a pretty good runner with the ball. And able to slot into a back 5, wing back etc when tactically required

And he makes runs in behind / is a target for the long ball

Prime Willock is better with the ball / attacking sense, but weaker defensively

Don't think there's many like for like replacements, I like Ederson from Atlanta if we want more of the same, or Cunha if we want something different

Yeah Joelinton's shoes are pretty big to fill, that's why I'm not that surprised that Howe turns to Willock. He might not have the phsyical presence, but he does cover the left flank pretty well. I think the 3 centre back/wing back combo is the next best thing with our current squad.

We need a new CM regardless imo. He doesn't have to pull wide left, they can bring another dynamic to the side. Being athletic is a must though.
