Winnable vital home games:

Reading

Southampton

Fulham

Stoke (Stoke aren't the same away from home)

Difficult home games:

Arsenal

Liverpool

Chelsea

Mackems (never can tell with a derby)

Crucial away games:....

QPR

Villa

Wigan

Away games where some points might be possible

Norwich

Swansea

West Ham

14 home points and 6 away required as a minimum.

The thing we haven't had this season is an "unexpected" victory. We need to pull some points out of the harder games. Chelsea at home or Spurs away. Wigan won at Spurs, QPR won at Chelsea, Reading beat Everton, Southampton got results from Stoke away and Arsenal, Villa won at Anfield. We need a similar big result or two.

Newcastle in 'real danger' of relegation, says Alan Pardew

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has conceded that his side are in "real danger" of relegation from the Premier League if performances do not improve.

The St James' Park club suffered another setback as they were beaten 2-0 at Brighton in the FA Cup on Saturday.

A series of injuries forced Pardew to field a weakened Newcastle side.

"We need to get our best players back and quickly," said Pardew. "We need to sustain ourselves and make sure we're a Premier League team next season."

He added: "We want to stay there but we are in danger and we need to get our best players out on the pitch."

Fabricio Coloccini and Papiss Cisse were not risked, having picked up minor knocks in the midweek defeat by Everton, while Yohan Cabaye and Steven Taylor have still to recover from long-standing injury problems.

Newcastle came into this match having lost nine of their past 11 in the league and six out of seven in all competitions, and Pardew did not hide his frustration at the final whistle.

"We didn't have enough quality on the pitch for a Newcastle team," he said. "We are missing so many players."

"Our younger players gave everything they could but it wasn't enough. It didn't help when we went down to 10 men."

Having lost Demba Ba to Chelsea, Pardew remains keen to bring in another striker before the end of the January transfer window. Marseilles striker Loic Remy is understood to be under consideration and for the Newcastle manager reinforcements cannot come quickly enough.

"If I am being honest that team was a shadow of the team we can put on the field," he said. "We need to get some bigger players back, who can handle the situation of carrying the Newcastle jersey. Whether that is a signing or getting a player back from injury, I don't know."

There may be some relief for the Magpies, with Pardew hopeful Cabaye and Taylor will be fit for Saturday's trip to Norwich.

I love people on here.

Yesterday: "I'm not bothered if we lose tomorrow, the league is more important".

Today after our defeat: "We are dooooomed!"

That will be down to the manner of our defeat.

And, the majority of our squad today was youngsters, quite a few of them have been deemed not good enough for us by people on here, Brighton are doing well in the Championship, play youngsters who play at League 1 or Championship level against a decent Championship team and there is going to be problems. This result and performance today has no reflection on our first team and it's ability, the same as it didn't last year when they beat us when we had more first team members playing in that one.

It wasn't that far off a first team tbh.

Elliot, Perch (arguably), Tavernier, Bigi, Abeid, Anita (arguably), Obertan (arguably).

Fair points, but the performance is a reflection on our manager's ability though.

I'd be very surprised if we went down. We have enough good players to mask Pardew's glaring inadequacies.

No doubt we are in relegation battle, again I agree we have good enough players to mask our managers cluelessness, but we can't look too much into today's game, learn lessons from it yes.

I know what the team was, thanks. The fact that you're including a player we paid £7m for from Ajax, the only player we thought we needed to improve the squad, rather derails your point.

That's why I think we'll go. For all the talk of how shit the teams below us are, they'll all pick up points that the Pools Panel won't necessarily expect them to. We won't, we haven't all season.

Plenty of people on here will still be happy with that because it's always "God who do you think we are? Why do you think we have a divine right to get anything off *insert any team here that isn't in the relegation zone*"
