From my limited understanding, PSR/FFP doesn’t get impacted by this. They’re interested in ‘accounting losses’ (e.g., transfers and wages) rather than cash moving in and out like this (appears as ‘Cash and Equity’ on the Balance Sheet). This money basically allows us to pay our bills and keep the lights on but it doesn’t offset our overall losses. So it can’t for example offset any losses through transfers and wages as far as PSR/FFP is concerned. We still have to balance the books for transfers and wages with revenues (commercial, TV etc.)

It does, clubs are allowed under the current rules to allow/account for £30m of equity investment per financial year iirc - the FFP three year loss limit is only £15m without it

If they pay more than anyone else, why do you care?

Because that giant yellow square on every shirt is horrific.

They also have some extremely shady working practices and should have been dumped as a sponsor the moment that news broke. (https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5545510/2024/06/12/newcastle-united-noon-worker-mistreament/?source=user_shared_article)

I wonder where adidas make our kit, probably in the far east where labour is cheap and shady practise’s take place. Should we bin off Adidas too?

Rogan Taylor back in the ‘90s used to argue that clubs would make far more money if they manufactured their own kit - or outsourced directly themselves.  I suspect he’d still be right.

Didn’t  Leicester make their own kit back in the 90’s? Didn’t appear to go to well for them. Small fanbase I guess.

They did - and yes, they didn’t up with a Scrooge McDuck-style piggy bank.  But they aren’t a big club, and football didn’t have the world wide reach back then.  Today, it’s a different story.  Adidas pay what they do because they know they can sell bucketloads of tat to the support - and the club gets a tiny share of that (usually c.7%, not sure what the exact terms are on our deal).

Barca were making noises about taking their kit “in house”, then Nike got the heebie jeebies and offered them a fuckload of cash not to do it

PIF attempted to buy Electronic Arts for 50 billion (alongside a Man City investor).

I’m sure that will get X riled up.

PIF gave Musk the money to buy Twitter and undermine western democracy, so any daft cunt on that platform hasn’t got a leg to stand on on that front :)

Fair enough. Of course once we start going down the political rabbit hole, then to follow through with it, you need to offer an alternative.

Do we have one which you would be happy with?

Newcastle United are pleased to announce our new shirt sleeve sponsorship from the 2026/27 season, In Post who extend their existing arrangement with the club as distribution partners.

If they do buy EA, I want EA as a sleeve sponsor, the Premier League can’t say fuck all since EA is one of their own sponsors.
