The thing is though we don't sign English players at a premium. We always look for good deals.

Looking back the English players we do sign often outplay the foreign signings a lot of people preferred.

Burn has been better than Diego Carlos, Gordon has been better than Moussa Diaby, Targett ended up doing better than that Brazilian that ended up at Forest at the time, Renan Lodi. Just as a few examples.

A good signing is a good signing no matter where from.

Let's see who comes in and what happens once the games come around. I suspect it will be the same old story.

I feel like you're missing my point. I don't doubt the quality of our signings, hence why the club have earned our trust.

And I wish more were like this. I'm always wrong and I'm always prepared to admit it. The world's a better place when people don't double down.

It surprise a few people but scouts aren't just some schmucks who turn up, watch a game and decide "he's a good player", their who lives are dedicated in finding who's got what skill and for which club they might suit. It's so complex.

(Not aimed at you) Kilman is Wolves Captain FFS, does anybody realise what level of personality and ability it takes to get to this level in football. Its honestly a matter of days before its revealed that the likes Man United etc were also sniffing around him. Mind I'm not sure I'm making the best argument there.

Great coach but a bad manager. He should stay away from the market. He knows only PL players and want inflated PL players.

As for your claim of being negative, I give you a generous D+. You're failing at pessimism, dude.

Some absolute whoppers in here mind.... and yes it's because I disagree with your opinion.

Our record in the transfer market is fantastic, especially the players we've signed from these shores.

I don't want us to sign foreign players just to appease a few FM wannabees who think they have the foreign market sussed.

Eddie has forgotten more about football than most (including me) will ever even understand in their lifetime. That doesn't mean to say you aren't entitled to an opinion, it just means that you are likely wrong.

The one season he had a chance to spend money at Bournemouth he ultimately delivered.

Solanke

Ake

Billing

Danjuma

Kelly

Mings

Bournemouth.

I honestly don’t know what that means - my apologies if I’ve missed something obvious and wondering if I’m having a senior moment (I turned 50 last week)

How am I not seeing Anyone else's view?

We do not only avoid signing foreign players, and we do not spend significantly more on the English players that we do sign, and in fact typically only sign them when there is decent value to be had.

And so what exactly are you irked by? The fact that I don't agree with what people are saying because it is inaccurate?

I think you’re right re: value. When we’ve bought from these shores, we’ve extracted good prices (Wood aside). Not sure how they would stack up against similarly rated players from other leagues, but we haven’t been take to the cleaners for players from the U.K.

Yes, this is the thing. We mostly do our key business in that £30 million to £40 million range, whether at home or abroad, and we've been very good at it.

We've then gone bigger twice, and both times it was for players we thought were exceptional and they were both from abroad, in Isak and Tonali.

I don't think many clubs have bettered us in the transfer market since the new owners came in, and so it's difficult to understand some of the negativity and scepticism.

Another point to consider, which I have never seen anyone doing, is do any of us know the rules on home grown players etc as demanded by the Euro competitions?

Personally I want to be back in Europe next year and I fully expect to be, be a shame if we were refused entry on some arbitrary rule created by some stuffed shirts with a toffee apples up their arse.

Yes foreign players look exotic and exciting, but England have their fair share of great players - the only thing that hinders them playing with that ability is currently called Gareth Southgate!

If there's nothing in it financially (bound to be though with the wages) PL ready is better than a risk on someone from overseas, cant really take risks with margins as tight as they are for us anyway, so if that's why they're doing what they're doing I see the logic in it and yet they nailed it with Isak and Bruno

There’s usually something in it financially though. A player from abroad at DCLs age and form rarely moves for close to 40m.

Is there a premium on English / PL players?

Definitely

Is Howe aware of this?

I think he's a pretty smart bloke - and when it comes to football, I reckon he knows a bit about that too - so definitely

Managers often succeed or fail based on their transfer dealings, given how these influence results - and Howe's have been pretty damn good so far.  @cubaricho absolutely nails it above about raising the 'floor' at the moment instead of the 'ceiling'.

Nothing wrong at all with fans wanting some players, or not wanting others.  No problem with anyone predicting X will be a bad signing.  But I'm more than happy for Howe to bring in the players he wants to improve the squad.  Incidentally, the likes of DCL, Kilman and Trafford - if they came in - would all strengthen the squad IMO.  Kelly has improved the squad - even if he isn't a world-beater.  Same goes for selling the likes of Minteh etc - a completely unproven -player who was bought (as far as I can tell) to sell for profit.  To be brutally honest, I'm ok with Howe selling any member of the squad (even Isak, though Jesus wept that would hurt!) if he thinks it would improve the team or squad.  I do think that the interests of the club are now dictating transfer policy, not lining a fat man's pockets.

PS - a short list of players I thought (and stated) would be shite signings:

Bellamy

Batty

Given

Ba

Speed

A short list of players I thought would be great signings:

Pistone

Guivarc'h

Marcelino (seriously!)

Thauvin

Owen

We all do it ... ;)

No real disagreements here. I think the broader point is if Stavely and PIF want to move into the bracket of big boy clubs, they'll need to become savvier (broader in their geographic scope) at some point. Domestic buys are too costly and PSR has real consequences flowing therefrom

Am I wrong in thinking we used the last two windows to improve the squad? I was personally hoping this time around we’d be focussing on the starting 11.

maybe we only need to buy a starting right winger? The rest can be backup players.

Cant even do some player trading in close season despite the club having a very good record at it and despite him being our best manager in 20years without the claws coming out.

Already dreading not being 1-0 up against Southampton after 15minutes.

Wait until 1st September would be my thinking.  No idea who'll end up in and out of the club.
