Howe’s very good at saying a lot without giving the game away, but I don’t think we have to read the tea leaves here. Just apply a bit of common sense.

Isak isn’t going to be allowed to swan back into training even if he wants to. The current arrangement is good for optics and squad discipline. He’s a distraction and there’s no point having him around during preparation for next weekend.

But the club aren’t going to close the door on Isak either because a) that weakens our negotiating position and b) he’s a 20 goal a season striker who will play for us next season if he’s still here.

Do I think Howe is furious? Absolutely. A player who owes a lot to Howe publicly undermined him. He’s probably not much higher on the shitlist than Ryan Fraser right now. But Howe’s never going to outright say this to the media. He knows the bigger picture.

Can’t help but notice he mentioned wanting “the right player” about 3 times in that press conference when asked about our lack of transfer activity.

That's why it takes a lot of time, he'd rather do without than take just anyone.

It isn’t all or nothing though. There’ll be a large pool of players between “perfect” and “not good enough”.

There will be but we'll only sign someone who meets Eddie's (probably exacting) standards.

amyone know who the bridge is now between Howe and PIF?

first it was Staveley, then Ashworth, Eales and Mitchell

is there anyone else high up who will have his back?

am slightly fearful for him this season if we get off to a rocky start and the usual fans/media start sniping

personally I think the way the transfer window is going at this rate it should be a free hit season

had it been a big summer as hoped I think some were expecting a title challenge and pressure would be another level with CL to also contend with

just hope he doesn't get fed up with things behind the scenes and can turn things around, create a siege menatility or whatever it takes

Or not sign them, as it’s turning out.

Y'know, I'd understated the whingers if we were getting beaten to signings by Everton or Fulham etc. But as it's all the cartel clubs, I really, really don't.

So what do we do? Keep trying and failing to sign perfect players and have a tiny squad? This is the second summer window in a row Howe has admitted to struggling to sign players because they aren’t exactly what he wants, despite him saying a few months ago the squad is far too small.

Literally the mortar holding this all together at the moment. Can’t wait until one of the super club 6 see that as well. . . .

I was with you there until you subbed Cunts for Super.

A relevant and realistic example is Bournemouth signing Kerkez, Zabarnyi and Huijsen for completely normal fees and affordable wages then they became 3 of the best defenders in the world within 2 years. Players like that exist in the gap between perfect and not good enough.
