Would be the best outcome for everyone, to be honest. Leaves us on a positive as he deserves and he’d do well for England imo.

The best outcome would be finishing the season strongly and us being back to our best under Howe next season, surely?

Obviously. But whether I expect that as a realistic outcome at this stage is something different.

The best outcome would be winning the PL and CL this season, but I’ve not commented on our prospects of doing so as every metric is pointing elsewhere.

I didn't realise so many people expected us to win at Anfield.

I think people are understandably just sick of another really bad away day, and another capitulation when leading a game.

Spending all the summer window looking for a manager and putting signing players on the backburner sounds like hell to me. And exactly the sort of thing we don't need right now.

I'm sure Gareth Southgate will be an upgrade in the end that the Howe outers would like.

That's why I think a transfer would lift the mood

Just seen a stat there. Since Howe came in we have played 50 away games against the current top 12 and have only won 6

Christ that’s pretty damning. I feel like my entire life we’ve been shite away from home.

Do you think he’s sacked if he gets no European football?

I think he could get away with finishing just outside the European spots, but if we finish bottom half I can see them letting him go.

The owners are a bit of a mystery to me though. Still waiting for official word on a new training ground, any word on the stadium, and the lack of any transfer movement in this window suggests they aren’t desperate to push for a CL spot. Maybe they’re comfortable with safe midtable finishes.

That would all make sense if last night wasn't comfortably our best performance at Anfield in 30 years. Individual errors that changed the game are making people think the overall performance was poor.

Yes, but looking at the positives the team showed they can go to Anfield and control the game and create some good chances.

That has been unheard of, since the KK days.  A transitional season and still not having a striker than can touch Isaks influence on games is a problem that needs sorting.

As much as SJP has been a fortress, that away form is simply nowhere near good enough.

Since we abandoned our “street wise” approach we have been a complete soft touch.

Last night felt like we were turning a corner after PSG midweek which was close to being up there with Feyenoord as one of the great European nights in our recent history, but after the goal we capitulated.

Huge improvement needed if we are to become European regulars.

The current top 12 as in it stand right now? If so its not accurate. Of the top  of my head we have beaten Everton x2, Villa, Man Utd, Fulham x2, Brentford x2

Obviously not much better but still not 6.

There's no chance that's right like.

On form this is the worst Liverpool team in a longtime - we were also on the back of an excellent performance in Paris.  Barnes goal goes in, VVD doesn't cut out Gordons cross - we well could have won this game.  You could see our energy levels drop though after 30mins - the team look shattered.  We desperately need another RB / CB - madness not signing either in Jan.  Thiaw needs a rest.

It's not like.

I see similarities with his end of his tenure at Bournemouth..Relying on defenders in their mid 30's ( Simon Francis, Charlie Daniels, Cook who was near 30 but no pace) and relying on bit of magic from Joshua King and Callum Wilson.

I’ve just tallied and it’s 9, not 6.

Not great like, but we all knew that.

Was glorious looking through 22-23 results tbh, we only lost 5 games all season .

Classic case of the scoreline setting narratives I reckon. I remember this match well (the one I've seen put forward as a better performance/set up than last night) and it was classic Pardew: we were shite.

pointless comparing previous results and performances at Anfield imo. I feel like maybe one of the reasons we never win there is because we’re obsessed with nonsense like that.

100%.

I think the attitude of we never win there so it doesn't matter is pretty pathetic tbh.
