Given Ornstein's comments, do we think he is definitely staying or do people still have doubts?

Ornstein's comments will be based on whatever gets him the most clicks. The facts are a secondary consideration.

Not sure. I'm 50/50. I do think whatever happens it'll be his decision though.

What's Ornstein said?

if it had been agreed Howe was leaving at the end of the season it would have been announced by now so that he could be given a proper send off in the final home game.

Howe did say that he was happy to follow a new blueprint of buying promise instead of proven ability, but that expectations would have to align with that. I think that's fair, but we have already spent a shitload on that squad, so if he's staying he will still be expected to finish in European qualification positions, so not sure the expectation will be THAT different tbh.

Something tells me you dismissed all of SBR's achievements the moment he didn't pick as many points in 2004 as he should have and you thought Souness was the man because he had a decent start.

BIG PICTURE. C'mon. This man beat Liverpool in League Cup final. Teams like US don't beat teams like Liverpool in regular games, let alone a cup final.

Weird things to say and couldn't be more wrong. Thought Souness was one of the worst managers of all time from the moment he ruined Liverpool and then failed everywhere else he went.

He's 100% staying.

I agree but think it's the wrong decision.  The more games we play the more I think we need change - we just look stale as out.  This summer is the perfect time to bring someone in new with fresh ideas.  Still no word on training ground - PIF for all their talk just seem happy for us to plod along.

Pre-Ashley, that's probably the worst decision I can remember as a supporter. Going from the highs of Keegan and SBR, and the way they conducted themselves, to that melty-faced prick was a gut punch.

He's just an angrier version of Steve Bruce and everyone knew it.

He was brought in to get the "brat pack" of Dyer, Jenas, Bramble, Bellamy under control iirc as there was a feeling that they were taki g the piss out  of SBR (think Dyer admitted years later that they were) but it was a totally misguided appointment.

Remember one of my mates being so pissed off about it that he actually wrote to the club and Souness agreed to meet him to answer his concerns.

What's your impression of where the players are at behind the scenes and where the season had gone wrong?

My impression from the players side is the vast majority are 100% committed to the team and manager, barring the obvious one who’s on his way out for sure.

In terms of where things are going wrong, reading between the lines I feel like it’s a psychological issue more than a tactical. When I was chatting to them last week it was suggested as much.

And I know the lack of training time has been an issue like. As of the Barca away game I was told they had 15 days of training all season (full days with full squad). Whether a few weeks are enough to put that right is up for debate, of course.

The training ground is 1000% happening… they’re just finalising the plans, but the land is bought and the commitment made.

Even though it panned out differently Gullit and Dalglish were good, sound choices....but Souness!?!

The only justification you can make is that they wanted someone to sort out the misbehaving Bellamy's and Dyer's of the world... shame about neglecting the whole football side but.

A few weeks back in a press conference before a game. Can't remember exactly which one but there will be a record of it somewhere I'm sure.

I doubt it, that's just something that stuck in my mind. But along those lines.

That's not even true. Not at all.

Fuck Souness but post Liverpool where he won the FA Cup as a manager btw he won the Turkish cup with Galatasaray and the League Cup with Blackburn in 02. That's not failing. Not at all.

Know we’ve had some bad results this season but there HAVE been good moments.

Beat Man U with 10 men

Beat Man City - Barnes double

Beat Chelsea

Fa Cup win against Villa away. I’m conditioned to think we’ll crash out of cups.

League Cup semi, lost to the eventual champions, Man City cyborgs

beating Bilbao 2-0 in the CL, beating PSV, drawing against the beat team in the world 1–1 PSG. Smashing Quarabag 9-2.

Yeah, we lost to Barca but it was 3-3 on aggregate up until the 44th minute at the Camp Nou. BTW Spanish champions

We’ve lost a lot of games by one goal. Our biggest PL deficit was three goals against Liverpool.

He’s changed the culture. Long live the king.

I love Eddie but highlighting them games is massively low balling what the standards should be.

1.Chelsea lost 5 games in a row and having their worst season in years.

2. We did beat Man city and played well but we got beat 5-1 on aggregate in carabao.

3. Saying we played well v Barca for 44 doesn't matter when we got beat 7-3.

4. Losing a lot of games by 1-0 isn't a positive.

With a decent summer, I can easily see Howe getting us back in to Europe next season. He’s proven this twice.

But I just can’t see how he gets us any further as the flaws are too fundamental. He’s also proven this twice.

Assuming the pattern continues (big assumption as Howe needs to prove he can do it without Ratface) then how do we break the cycle? Sack Howe next summer?

Easily see us getting into Europe?

The way he has us playing your having a giraffe.
