It cost us Anderson and Minteh already, and while it looked fabulous for Chelsea two years ago, if they continue to slide, it will come back to bite them on the arse. No, but we are actively trying to qualify for Europe either finishing in a relevant league position or by winning trophies, aren't we? At least I assume that's a core objective of the playing side of the football club, I'd certainly hope so, given the time and financial investment I and many others make into it every year. So I'm not sure flipping the bird at UEFA's rules or ignoring a settlement we make now and taking an approach of "we don't need to worry about it now" is going to be a viable strategy. Nor is it one I'd imagine the club plans to take.

Villa will have 5 years of European football consecutively. To do so they've breached the rules, come close to breaching and pulled magic tricks to make it work. That's what it's going to take. That's great if everything falls in place. Smart signings, great coaching and competent leadership from the top. If you don't have all those then it can easily turn into the shitshow we saw last summer which can set you back two years.

We haven't stuck to the laws "with ease perfectly all the time" though, that's why we're negotiating a settlement with UEFA, are going to pay a fine, and are presumably going to agree to go along with whatever the terms of the settlement and the rules are. We've breached the rules, I assume we've therefore also come close to breaching the rules before, but unfortunately we seem to have pulled our stadium magic trick after UEFA closed the selling your own assets to yourself loophole, but that's another conversation. Rabster
The only way out of this is to start developing the kids quickly. The youth teams have made progress. 2 youngsters a year into the first team. I think Yasir understands this. However, I think Eddie prefers a trusted Murphy to blooding Park Seung-Soo. If Anderson and Minteh were with the club now, would they be playing regularly? I'm not so sure.

Erikse
Yeah, I think it's a myth that Anderson wouldn't have gotten enough minutes to develop. Howe liked him, and he was already playing a lot when he wasn't injured. If he kept getting the minutes that he did apart from injury, then his development wouldn't have been strangled at all. You don't need to start every single game to be able to develop quickly. Andersons excellent form started already in the first few months at Forest, right after we sold him. They were impressed right from the start, before they even had time to give him all those minutes that people claim was the difference maker. Watch quite a bit of the U21s due to just living down the track from Whitley Park and Park Seung-Soo is nowhere near good enough for the 1st team on what I've seen of him. I do think both Anderson and Minteh would have had good game time this season. It's the 1st season since Bruno arrived that he's had injury problems and a long spell out. Joelinton has had injury problems as well so this season the opportunities would have been there but he would have been a year behind as he wouldn't have got many minutes last season which is when he started to make his name. Suspect Minteh would have also played quite a bit this season as he would arguably have been our best winger if he'd still been here. Agree with your other points. We definitely do have to put more into the development of younger players. It's more important than ever.

Anderson excelled on his loan spell at Bristol Rovers and immediately following his move to Forest. The only place he struggled was here, and that was because he didn't really fit the 4-3-3 system we were using at the time as he ended up playing wide where he wasn't great. For all Eddie loved him as a player, he couldn't really play him where he would excel.

In the last few years there's been clubs with far less investment achieved better than that. I mean for your last sentence, we have been one of those clubs under Howe. Outside of the "big six", there's only Villa that have matched our ability to outperform our wage bill.
