This cup doesn’t reflect anything in the group stages.

Its a league style system and all the top teams play virtually all of their second string players  (players that rarely play- youngsters etc )

I wouldn’t take anything from the results in this early stage (it gets serious when it gets to knockouts)

Newcastle might switch it up a bit too (depending on the fixtures in and around these games)

The one thing it will bring is decent crowds and a chance for the womens game to keep growing.

Yea I get the format, the whole cup is a bit of a joke really. No one takes it seriously other than arsenal, as it's the only thing they seem to be able to win these days!!

I agree though, should draw some big crowds, and if some of the teams field weaker sides, we could maybe spring a suprise or 2!

You would think Man U should be looking at it more seriously this year, as they're not in Europe, and unlikely to be challenging for the league again!

Looks like we may have to add a couple of more quality players if we want to challenge this year. I know it's only friendlies, but the mackem lasses beat Everton on their own patch today 2 - 1, whereas we were beaten 4 - 0 last week

That’s good. Maybe it means away fans will be locked out. The very last thing the women’s game needs is kids wanting to act big causing bother and forever putting off families attending.

Yeah I've got mixed feelings about it like. One of the reasons the women's game was good to go to was because the atmosphere was so much better and friendlier. Can do without derby dramas and aggro in all honesty.

Another new signing coming in (On loan) from Crystal Palace

Assuming the post above is who you were referring to here 4 weeks ago? I thought I remembered them loaning someone from Palace as per your post and was thinking why can't the men be as accommodating, ha. The women have done a fair bit of business with Palace recently with Cataldo and PBG coming in earlier in the year.

Nice additions and great to keep Becky longer. She could do with some higher level experience around her after losing the assistant in the off season.

Know absolutely nothing about her, but the replacement seems to have decent experience managing at a good level, hopefully it'll help Becky continue to grow in her role.

Complete brain fart and forgot that! Remember it happening and approving at the time too lol

Massively happy for my cousin's kid moving back into the WSL, but had a vague hope of her coming to us this season, maybe on loan.

Not that she has much of a link with the NE, and no doubt best to be stepping on with one of the top teams, but hoping she might see the light and become a black and white in a few years!

Does anyone with more knowledge know how well our squad stacks up for the season ahead. Will they be pushing for promotion or will it be more about establishing ourselves. Is the step up significant in this league?

It's quite a wide open league this year. I hope we would be in the mix, but Charlton or London city lionesses are probably favourites, Birmingham will be up there too. Sunderland will expect to do as well if not better than last year, and Bristol should be there or there abouts having just come down from the WSL and keeping most of their squad together. They have lost their manager though, and as far as I'm aware, they haven't got a replacement yet.

Our squad looks ok on paper, but there have been so many changes, it's a bit of a mystery as to how well we'll do. I think we may struggle to score many goals, but hopefully I'm wrong!

Last season we were the only full time professional team which gave us a massive advantage, that's wiped out this season though as I think most teams are professional or at least semi.

Very few (if any) of our squad are WSL standard, so finishing top 3 or 4 and then having (another) revamp of the squad to bring some WSL level players in, then going for it next season would be my ideal situation!!

I thought there would have been a couple of more WSL or international players coming in. May still happen as there is a week to go and a couple of the squad (Ferguson, Donnelly) maybe shipped out on loan. I know it was only friendlies, but we were well beaten at Everton, whereas the mackem lasses beat them a week later.

Probably a season of consolidation this year, which would not be a disaster. If we're in the running come January, I can see the boat being pushed out again. Be interesting tomorrow, as this will be a decent test to see how we match up
