TorchyTBB Posted Sunday at 14:54 Share Posted Sunday at 14:54 (edited) Our manager's team selection and tactics always leave me a bit baffled, we need an upgrade urgently. Southampton look a far better organised and drilled side. We have some decent players, but the manager is really not getting the best out of them. Agree Boddy should have started. et tu brute Posted Sunday at 15:02 Share Posted Sunday at 15:02 (edited) Can't legislate for the goal. Manager has had a nightmare lately. Drops Boddy arguably the best (or one of) player this season. We're being totally bullied in midfield and as much as I like Barker's endeavour, she is the female Almiron. Can't understand why Watts was brought on also, when Greenwood played centre half virtually all season last year. Going forward, as has been all season, we look pretty poor and have nobody to hold the ball up. Only player looking any real danger is Lumsden. Standard has been horrendous also and I think this is the reason crowds have dropped game by game at SJP. As a Newcastle supporter I obviously love to see all our teams doing well, but it certainly is a hard watch. Smal Posted Sunday at 15:37 Share Posted Sunday at 15:37 Still something in this for us. We've looked much more dangerous the last 10 minutes.

Aiston Posted Sunday at 16:05 Share Posted Sunday at 16:05 Ears successfully blown out on the equaliser WHY is the sound so low so you have to have speakers stupidly high to hear the commentary ! Good old fashioned scrappy goal to save the point.
Stifler Posted Sunday at 16:06 Share Posted Sunday at 16:06 (edited) The referee must have been from Hampshire, everything given to them, nothing given to us, blatant penalty at the end as well. They had no composure in that match, lust lashing it up in the air, straight back at them. I’m not convinced by a few of our players. Andrews can run with the ball, but has no final product, I don’t know what she offers over Kacie Barker. Lumsden, does she know that she is meant to take the ball with her? Out of the hour I saw, we did deserve a point, but it was poor really. Southampton only had 2 scares right after each other in the 2nd half, other than that, they were comfortable by doing nothing at all. Smal Posted Sunday at 16:08 Share Posted Sunday at 16:08 Feel like we deserved something out of the game tbf. Last half an hour we were good after the subs and had some control over the game. We definitely need a more physical presence up top if we can get one. It'd make a massive difference given how we seem to play, relying on second balls and pretty direct football. Booting it long for Barker and Hayles unsurprisingly didn't bear fruit at all.

et tu brute Posted Sunday at 16:18 Share Posted Sunday at 16:18 Manager very lucky as she had an absolute nightmare there. Takes off the top scorer, leaves Barker on and then refuses to put on Kelly (last season's player of the year) or Gibson who has scored in every game at SJP. No change in formation or tactics either. The standard in this division is pretty poor.apart from a 20 minute spell from Birmingham, I've not been impressed by any team. Crowd of only 11,000 also and to be fair that's not surprising judging by the standard. If the owners are looking for super league football, then a change of manager and an upgrade in players is required.

I think the standard so far in this league has been shocking, and by the same measure I think we have been rather poor, and we have played better in previous seasons. I honestly think our squad from last season would win more games than our current squad, and even beat our current teams.
Sifu Posted Sunday at 16:46 Share Posted Sunday at 16:46 (edited) Today wasn't a classic by any means but we have to remember this is still a team in progression and everyone, from Becky Langley to the players are still learning (that is, players who are playing the level for the first time and players getting accustomed to Becky's style). I would say we've done rather admirably so far this season given that this is our first season in the Championship. Patience is needed, the fact we're outside contenders for promotion in our first season in the league says it all (I know we've invested a lot but still need to gel everyone). Give it time, we have the right manager/head coach and a great group of players imo. Edited Sunday at 16:47 by Sifu

Groundhog63 Posted Sunday at 17:44 Share Posted Sunday at 17:44 Maybees they've changed the team too much, too soon? Mind I didn't watch it. If I watch sports I want to see proper athletes so I watched Luke Littler's titanic battle against Gary Anderson 💪🎯

Love to be proven wrong obviously I'm starting to wonder about this. So many games this season we've not changed tactically when it's been needed, and we havnt improved on things where we get caught out game after game. Given the investment, which is probably only 2nd to LCL, we should be doing a lot better. I also don't think we've invested very well, if our aim was to at least be challenging at the top. Paullow Posted Sunday at 18:40 Share Posted Sunday at 18:40 (edited) 25 minutes ago, LFEE said: Price point needing looked at? I'm not sure, but there's no doubt that would be a big factor in the crowds going from 24-28,000 to 11,000 in barely 2 years. £8 isn't much to be in a big stadium watching professionals, especially when the likes of Spennymoor can charge £16 a match, but yeah, you'd probably have double the crowd if it was only £3 or £4 as you miss that less, so basically getting the same revenue, but having half as many people, and then I guess that affects programmes, food etc. A few other factors I was thinking of might be the novelty wearing off, or fans trying it once, thinking it wasn't for them and not going back. The squad is still largely local and even some of the newer players like Boddy and Kelly are still sort of from the North East, but 2 years ago it would be vast majority local players and if the likes of Anna Soulsby brought 30 odd friends and family per SJP game, that would help the numbers a bit. 11,620 is still a great crowd generally, and teams like Carlisle and Morecambe would be very happy playing in front of those sort of numbers, but it is a bit disappointing when they had 4 crowds in the 20,000s not that long ago, one almost 30,000, and it's supposed to be a better standard and level now, including a North East player who's had like 100 England caps. I didn't go today, but have been to the past 2 matches, and will hope to go to the Sunderland match, which I'm sure will have a far better crowd, even at £8. Stifler Posted Sunday at 21:42 Share Posted Sunday at 21:42 I wanted to go today, but I had to work. I’ll be there for the Sunderland match. I guess alongside ticket price, you also have to factor in that it’s winter now, and fucking cold. Having a match at 2pm on a Sunday, with shit public transport, when fans will be leaving in the dark is a bit of a downer. Absolutely no reason why it couldn’t have been played on the Saturday, especially as most North East none-league teams were away from home as well.
