et tu brute Posted Sunday at 14:54 Share Posted Sunday at 14:54 Don't rate Langley at all as a manager at this level. I agree totally about the signings also.
Cclay Posted Sunday at 14:57 Share Posted Sunday at 14:57 Seems like until we can get someone who can actually shoot and score against championship defenders and goalkeepers, that is how it's going to be. It's fine and good shooting on target in training videos, but many / most of our shots are not like that in real matches, where we, often, don't look like scoring, especially with our strikers. This problem predates this season, even though we were high-scoring against lesser opposition. Sheffield are below us, and we really should be beating them if we wish to be in the WSL. Joe_F Posted Sunday at 15:06 Share Posted Sunday at 15:06 (edited) Yeah the transfer business at the beginning of the season has been a bit of a disaster. They're supposedly bringing in Freya Gregory from Villa so hopefully that's a change in policy and they're going for younger, promising players now. iklgizmo Posted Sunday at 15:07 Share Posted Sunday at 15:07 Finding a good centre forward is a real struggle for teams in the WSL too. I've been playing the WSL fantasy football game this season and it's so hard because literally only players from the top 3 teams score regular points! The best players all play for those teams, and then the rest are just scrapping about trying to get players on loan from those teams!!
Cclay Posted Sunday at 15:18 Share Posted Sunday at 15:18 (edited) As I've indicated, previously, I've trained girls (not womens) football for years and the ability to score is, as you said, a rare trait (as it is in men's football). That becomes increasingly difficult as you go up the pyramid, and defenders get better / more organised. Until we solve this, I think we've hit our ceiling. OverThere Posted Monday at 15:12 Share Posted Monday at 15:12 What do folks think that understand the women's game? Are we building for a promotion push for next year? What is the strategy??
Cclay Posted Monday at 15:18 Share Posted Monday at 15:18 (edited) Looks to be next year. We are still in it this year, but there is little / no scope for dropping points (as, at least, one of the other teams will not do so - in which case we don't get promoted - or do so very little, in which case there is a slim chance). We are left, essentially, having to take points off them and hope others do the same - otherwise it's next season. The additions will strengthen that, but unless the lack of goals is rectified, it will be just as much chance, again. Gregory has been playing as a winger. She scores some goals, but not many - though did so, when playing for Southampton, against us. She can also play in defence. toontownman Posted Monday at 15:33 Share Posted Monday at 15:33 I think it's a measured approach. Consolidate and push as much as we can this year while bringing players on. Granted if we got up somehow this year, we would likely spend money to try and stay up but it's probably more ideal to have a year building for promotion and a more feasible basis to stay up in the premier league and push on quicker when we get there. Depends how many at the club currently, especially the younger ones, have the ability to be premier league players or have hit their cieling. Another year in the championship could be good for players development.

Her and the Southampton No.8 were the two best players on the pitch.

SteV Posted Monday at 17:32 Share Posted Monday at 17:32 Yeah, I mean the goal was a massive fuck up on our part like. But she was constantly running in behind and looked to have a lovely rangy stride that got her clear of defenders. Not that I watch much women’s football at all, but I was there that day, and as I say, her and the lass on the wing for Southampton stood out a mile. TBG Posted yesterday at 11:13 Share Posted yesterday at 11:13 Anyone got a ticket for the derby yet? Curious to see how much of the stadium is open.

At this moment, the only sections open are the whole of the East Stand and blocks A and B (standing) of the Strawberry Corner - plenty of tickets in all of them. They'll open more parts of the ground once the East Stand sells out (which I'm confident they will do).
