Trafford, Guehi, Mbuemo plus 3-4 loans & frees.

In case you aren't aware. Loans are really expensive.

We'd be paying a fee plus the salary without gaining the benefit of an asset.  Also loans really aren't suited to Eddie's methods of bedding people in slowly. Poor use of resources imo.

I know but we need squad depth and it'd cost a helluva lot more to buy 3-4 players than loan them. I think the 3 "big" signings take our first XI to top 3/4 level. We need strength underneath that.

It's why we have to look overseas and try and find another Bruno, Botman type signing imo.

Mbuemo at 60+m is too much for us imo. Guehi might also be as his salary demands I imagine will be high.

We are in a tricky spot a lot of pressure on Paul Mitchell this summer.

Aye, Mitchell really does have a hard job this summer. On the flip side, he’s been here a year come summer and we haven’t spent much, he’s had plenty of time to prepare for this transfer window.

Couldn't agree more, he's had plenty of time to settle in and plan what not needs to be done, of course certain factors will never be in his control but I do have quite high expectations for this summer personally.

Same, no real excuses to not come out of it with a really strong squad imo. Even more so if we manage a top 5 finish.

I'm really curious to see what the trade off is in this window, I don't think we are a window away from a perfectly rounded and balanced squad...

There will be a plan and it will be a really good one. I think what’s happened up to now should reassure everyone that it is in hand

I mean, our transfers were basically perfect before Mitchell even game in, so adding his expertise to what we already have should result in something very good. Especially if we get CL, which we will.

Apparently he can now be had for what we bid last summer.

Will be interesting to see what happens there.

I hope we move on it.

One of those that will get snapped up by Forest or Spurs for cheap and in a year, I will be annoyed we didn’t do it.

Unless someone else has popped up that we prefer I imagine it will be a strong possibility.

A lot of the leg work would have been done last year already. It just came down to them wanting more money, which is no longer the case.

So let's see what happens.

Sign 3 top players (GK/CB/RW), potentially lose a good player (say Joelinton to Saudi for £50m) on top of aggresively selling the fringe players (Targett/Longstaff) and that used to sign 4 younger/on the cusp players (CMx2, ST, RB). Where after a few months, squad could look on paper very strong if those players perform.

Think in a position of strength (cup win, UCL) we HAVE to be ruthless with the squad. There's so many we should move on if there's deals to be had and fresh players brought in, with likes of Burn, Bruno, Tonali, Isak, Gordon etc. all being the leaders. Like I love Schar, but if there's a deal for £8m+ on table and he's going to be back up CB next season, they're the sales we have to make.

Burnley’s CB, Maxim Esteve looked a decent player. Reminds me a bit of Botman in the way he plays. He’s only 22 as well.

Think Spurs were interested in January

Who's paying £8M for Schar or signing any of these fringe players?

I do believe there's a market for Longstaff (Everton, promoted teams etc).

Targett will be harder due to wages

Seems he's available for about £20M.

He's very raw and has a mistake in him, but £20M doesn't even get you a Championship defender now days.

Eddie coaching would make him a good option tbf

Think he has all the attributes to be a top defender.

Still just 23 years old but has a decent amount of experience in Serie A, as well as the Champions League experience too.

Like you said, a bit of refinement and it's the sort of deal we'll be raving about a year from now. He could quickly look even better for us with the sort of work Howe and his team do coaching.

£20 - £25 million for him is the sort of deal that can get us a good player with a good amount of top level experience, and allow us plenty more room to manouevre in the market. His wages are low at the moment too.

Would be a smart signing.
