Realistic Transfer Targets (2025/26)

Recommended Posts

Seems he's available for about £20M.

He's very raw and has a mistake in him, but £20M doesn't even get you a Championship defender now days.

Eddie coaching would make him a good option tbf

I'm really curious to see what the trade off is in this window, I don't think we are a window away from a perfectly rounded and balanced squad...

Sign 3 top players (GK/CB/RW), potentially lose a good player (say Joelinton to Saudi for £50m) on top of aggresively selling the fringe players (Targett/Longstaff) and that used to sign 4 younger/on the cusp players (CMx2, ST, RB). Where after a few months, squad could look on paper very strong if those players perform.

Think in a position of strength (cup win, UCL) we HAVE to be ruthless with the squad. There's so many we should move on if there's deals to be had and fresh players brought in, with likes of Burn, Bruno, Tonali, Isak, Gordon etc. all being the leaders. Like I love Schar, but if there's a deal for £8m+ on table and he's going to be back up CB next season, they're the sales we have to make.

Burnley’s CB, Maxim Esteve looked a decent player. Reminds me a bit of Botman in the way he plays. He’s only 22 as well.

Think Spurs were interested in January

Who's paying £8M for Schar or signing any of these fringe players?

I do believe there's a market for Longstaff (Everton, promoted teams etc).

Targett will be harder due to wages

Think he has all the attributes to be a top defender.

Still just 23 years old but has a decent amount of experience in Serie A, as well as the Champions League experience too.

Like you said, a bit of refinement and it's the sort of deal we'll be raving about a year from now. He could quickly look even better for us with the sort of work Howe and his team do coaching.

£20 - £25 million for him is the sort of deal that can get us a good player with a good amount of top level experience, and allow us plenty more room to manouevre in the market. His wages are low at the moment too.

Would be a smart signing.

Thiaw your ideal RCB target then?

That is a good price if he is a good player

Angel Gomes is a no brainer imo.

I'm sure there’s quite a queue for his signature though…

Not been the same since his injury last year. Wants over £100k a week too. Doubt we’ll be in for him.

I think for the price and what he brings, yes.

Having said that I like most of the players we've been linked with in the position.

What I really don't want is any faffing about negotiating with that twerp at Palace.

And so not keen on revisiting the Guehi deal.

Good points, I have no idea how we will balance quality vs quantity with the cost of players this summer, can't wait for it tbh

Who was the last cheaper/unknown gem we signed that slotted into the first team?

I just looked back into our history and I reckon it's Mitro, Ayoze, Wijnaldum, J.Murphy? Lejeune had potential if he stayed/got played.

Whoever it is, it's been a few years since we had that kind of transfer success. Other teams in the league do it, and we need to also given PSR.

Not sure of your parameters, but Dan Burn comes to mind.

I did think about Burn. I guess I didn’t stick him in because of his age. Wish he was like 25.

Ayoze definitely because at the time he was considered like a Cordero - young guy with potential to develop in the academy, completely unknown and very cheap.

Mitro, Wijnaldum were bought for 15m plus and aimed at being first team players and also not that unknown as both had featured in top 100 youngsters lists the year before.

Leujene was very good and very cheap.

Joelinton arrived as a complete unknown and has turned out well in the end but for the money was bought as a first teamer.

Dubravka also arrived as a complete unknown but has done very well.

No coincidence most of these are under Rafa who performed miracles for the amount of money he was given.

Under Howe the most unknown player has been Osula who isn’t quite a hit yet.

Rafa is one of the very few of a dying bread who can be trusted to run a football club.
