Wolfcastle
If being booed off after their final game, all of a couple hundred fans stopping back to show appreciation for the season, then having twelve people wave flags around and setting off flares in a car park to make up for it doesn't motiviate them then nothing will. CoreOfNUFC
Surely can't be the only person wanting Sunderland promoted? I quite miss derby days and the opportunity to shag them twice a season.

Let them rot where they are. We've got bigger fish to fry than playing that lot. We'd have everything to lose and nothing to gain. When we beat them last season it was the most underwhelming win against them ever due to the huge gulf between the 2 clubs. Had they somehow beaten us we'd never have heard the end of it. The high of victory can never be as extreme as what the low of a defeat would be.

One of a very few yes, I've been seeing derbies since the 70s and I'm quite happy for the cunts to spend the rest of eternity in the lower leagues
et tu brute
Pleased Bristol are getting knocked out (unless some miracle happens) as they have looked total shit every time I've seen them play live. Sheff United will be a lot harder to beat than Bristol, if the mackems do get through. I would have heavily fancied Coventry or Sunderland to win the final if Bristol had somehow got through. Aye it's 4 utterly shit teams in there battling it out to see which one of them gets the glory of finishing 20th in the PL next season but if that honour is going to the mackems they've got to beat the 2 least shittest teams to do it. Bristol City are absolutely pathetic.

Paully
First time I’ve heard the full story! https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6341911/2025/05/09/sunderland-coventry-bristol-hill-merrington/?source=user_shared_article The sports editor of the Bristol Post, David Solomons, was there and delivered a lyrical account of the evening, writing of “the immaculate, suave Jimmy Hill, managing director of Coventry and football pundit extraordinary, rushing like a demented bison to the public address box behind where I was sitting yelling, ‘Sunderland have lost. Announce it, you bloody fools’.” On Highfield Road’s giant scoreboard, the Sunderland result appeared and suddenly both Coventry and Bristol City engaged in “non-football”, as Solomons put it. “I am not kidding,” Hunter recalled, “Coventry had the ball in their half, then it was passed down to our half and we knocked it around a bit.”

They shout the same at the statue of Hill, who died 10 years ago at age 87, outside the new Coventry stadium when they visit. “Cheyyyyyt”

Sid
Many, possibly most of those posting about Jimmy Hill on RTG weren't even alive in 1977. Would they have not done the same had the boot been on the other foot? Possibly not, but probably yes. If things had been the other way round they would have thought Coventry pathetic knackers for still whining about it nearly half a century later. They would be right. They should just let it go and enjoy tonight for what it is, a chance. I will be watching, my first Sunderland game of the season on TV ( I occasionally attend the SoL if I can get in for free) and I hope they win.
