He's absolutely not good enough, sick of saying yet idiot fans giving it the he's a good shot stopper. He's a bottom of table goal keeper at best and costs us alot of points. Some of comments in here are laughable mind, he's a country mile behind the top keepers

Laughable indeed.

Joelinton mostly at fault for the goal, not Pope. He got caught ball watching

Mad people are saying otherwise. Was the perfect header from Munoz.

I’m an unashamed Pope fan boy. Personally think a keeper as good as him will be disappointed with that. I think he should have saved it.

However. It is poor defending and I don’t automatically assume getting beat at your near post is always keeper error.

I feel him for a bit. As he was quality otherwise……

How? Do our fans think he's good enough because he pulls off some good saves? He's been to blame for 4 goals this season at least and constantly puts the team under pressure with his abysmal kicking?  Look at west ham other night twice he kicks it sideways to give west ham throw in when he's barely under pressure.

Why do you think he's England's 4th choice keeper?

Any fan who thinks he's good enough is absolutely kidding themselves. If we are aiming for a Europe you can't have him in goal simple as that.

What about when we finished 4th and he was in goal

I think like most of our players, he has been below his best this season. I also think if we want to fully evolve as a team. He will need to be upgraded in time. But I do still think whilst it will be simple enough to get a keeper better with their feet. I don’t think it will be cheap to get one that matches or beats him as a ‘keeper’.

Each to their own but I think his "keeper" side is overrated, he wants to punch everything, he often gets beaten softly and I'm there's being good with your feet or simply not able to kick a ball which is pope. He made a lot of mistakes prior to joing us also btw, 2 at St James and 2 at turf moor against Newcastle that I can remember

Did I imagine us finishing 4th with him in goal or….

Keepers make mistakes. It isn’t anything new. He is making a few more than you’d expect this season. But I still think he brings a lot of positives to this team, personally. Even though like all of our squad. He seems below his best. Which is a concern, but another discussion entirely.

Pope isn't the problem mate us not creating and scoring is.

They both problems imo, Pope should of saved that yesterday and like I've mentioned has already been to blame for a few goals. I'm not denying creating isn't an issue but Pope is going backwards imo.

You said he was to blame for 4 - there’s only three teams conceded less goals than us so he can’t be that bad. If isak misses 4 shots this season do you give him as hard a time and Pope has had a lot more to do this season than most on our team I reckon.

I remember Peter Schmeichel saying that goalkeepers are defined by their mistakes - and tbh I don't think Pope makes all that many.  There's better out there, certainly, but he isn't our biggest worry atm.  I actually think his newly-developed habit post-injury of meekly pushing the ball out from strikes on goal instead of directing them away from goal is a bigger worry than his consistently average kicking.

Think it looked worse because it always looks bad when a keeper is beaten at his near post but I agree it was a very good header. Difficult one to stop.

Controversial take but Isak has underperformed more than Pope this season. As has Gordon. And Bruno. There are bigger issues.

Don’t think it’s controversial at all tbh.

Well Pope doesn’t have the same high ceiling, but you’re not wrong.

I thought he was outstanding for the most part and can't believe he is getting some stick for the first.  It clearly hits Burn and deflects past him at a decent speed.  Bar that proper no man's land where he sort of ran into Tino and realised too late that he was blocking his route to the ball.  It looked windy as fuck and seemed to catch plenty out all night, mind.  I'd rather he kept being aggressive and coming for the ball.  Even if it does result in the odd fuck up.  He certainly got away with that one!  Came from us giving the ball away cheaply down our left , yet again, from memory?

The save down to his left was top drawer.  But as I always say, he seems to make saves a lot of keepers get nowhere near look incredibly routine.  Positive that he has gone down hard on his dodgy shoulder and all.  As he was certainly looking a bit ropey diving to that side.

His distribution was superb all night, I thought.  His quick roll outs and throws set us away on counters regularly.  The whistle at the end possibly robbing him from contributing massively to our own 4-3 v Liverpool that Sky could keep showing for years to come.  Even his kicking was pretty good.  Nearly set us away on a counter with the long one out of hand.  Played a decent diagonal out to Tino.  Low bar on the kicking, of course  but it was still better than usual.

Has made a few errors this season , still a decent goalie but he's clearly not at that level he was before his injury and the season we were 4th. I think we will look to upgrade in the summer if we can afford it .

The first goal was impossible to save, the ball went over the opposite shoulder he expected because of the deflection.

Commentary said great finish but there was a lot of luck involved.

Didn't see that the ball was deflected for the first goal until after the game, so in retrospect can't really blame him for that.

He was really shaky after their first goal though. Didn't feel like he had any confidence for the remainder of the game.

The pass to Livramento at the end of the first half though. He's done that once before this season and I just laugh at how uncharacteristic it is when he does it  His distribution was really good in general yesterday.

Just as it hasn't really been addressed, there's been a lot of talk about Kelleher as a possible replacement for Pope, but if Pope had let in the Schar and Gordon goals, he'd have been getting rinsed in here.

Pope isn't perfect, but the grass isn't dramatically greener in most other fields.
