AyeDubbleYoo
Yeah, terrible. Don’t get why the club just don’t buy them all and cancel the ST or membership of anyone involved. Also criminal that those sites are allowed to facilitate something that is against the terms and conditions of the actual product they’re selling. patrone
It's not just us, they are listing plenty of others and cup games, UCL, other European leagues and so on. All these huge clubs, with all that money/power, yet this website has been selling for years ?
bobbydazzla
There’ll probably be touts selling tickets to this We Are United supporter event

If we went back to 100% physical tickets the numbers would drop significantly. Digital tickets far to easy to transfer geographically. The remaining locally would have to transfer face to face and would probably have far less bottle to ask for such high prices. On another subject do you all think the ID checks are to whittle down the misuse of remaining Away ST holders? Apparently still 50-60 in existence. Wasn’t sure but thought they’d ran their course years ago. https://x.com/chariiebennett/status/1722909188894925179?s=46&t=DDNXUN2PoOBhgKmoF77zNw
wormy
Wow, had never heard of them. Not that there's any reason to as a non-local that can't even get a home season ticket. How long ago are they a remnant of?

Nah I think it was a Mike Ashley thing bit like the long term deals for home games. Locking in as much as possible to his shit show. Could be wrong though ?? Wallace
I was an away season ticket. Think it was targeted at those who went to every (almost every?) game and they were invited to join the scheme or maybe it was based on loyalty points. It started quite early on under Ashley’s ownership. I am sure I opted out for one season due to medical reasons but was allowed back in the next season. It was good not having to remember to apply for tickets as they were automatically sent out. Think there might have been about 500 to start with but I might be wrong about that. Think LFEE is right about it being about locking people in. It was probably also around the time that the club decided to take reduced allocations for every game so they didn’t have to pay for unsold tickets. You'd think if they wanted it stopped it would have been by now ?♂️ When you have unlimited memberships it’s impossible to stop really. If they get banned they just sign up under a different name and stick another £30 quid on the ticket price
AyeDubbleYoo
That’s true but being a member only gives you a tiny chance of getting a ticket anyway. It’s not like it’s a good bet. I guess if you sell your ticket for £200 it’s worth it, but you would still need about 20 memberships to have a reliable chance of getting a ticket. ponsaelius
But the £30 is nowt for a membership if one ticket success gets you a profit of 100-200 quid. That ticket will potentially win 5-6 tickets a season even if you're only mildly successful on it. Then if you have 10-20 memberships the multiplier effect goes up each time. Every single of those memberships will be profitable over the course of the season, and even if some of them aren't the more you have the more you are de-risking the overall process because of the profit margins for each success. The current system of unlimited untrackable memberships, ballots, digital tickets and demand exceeding supply is a ticket touts dream. For some people ticket touting is a full-time job, not just a side hustle. They will have hundreds of accounts applying for football and gig tickets, bots and macros doing the work. I have absolutely no doubt there will be professional touts with 10-20 accounts, each with fake addresses, running off hidden IP addresses. It's why it's so difficult to get a ticket compared to last year because the total pool of accounts applying will be much higher. ponsaelius
It's broadly easy to solve too. You just have limited membership sale during the summer and this is linked to a form of ID. This prevents multiple accounts and also means if you're caught touting then you're banned for good. It's not nice that it needs to be tied to a formal ID but it's an instant solution. The club won't do it, though, because the unlimited memberships is a money maker. Plus tourists who can afford/justify to pay £200 for a ticket will be more likely to spend on merch than your regular matchgoer.

Boyd Weddel is still employed by the club too… I might be massively wide of the mark (not for them first time) but there’s always been insiders across all clubs exploiting their access to tickets. That and they’ve pretty much introduced it in a relaxed way to away tickets in a way and look at the fuss that has caused. Like I said earlier reverting back to physical tickets would eradicate this 99%. If touts can only sell them face to face locally you’ve instantly decreased the geographical area of sale as unable to send instantly payment and electronically transfer ticket and increased the jeopardy on the seller (as ticket not sold until 24/48hrs before game and could be let down by buyer or confronted by an official or someone physically intimidating etc. Those selling from an ST would have to trust that person with their ST and have to hang around for them to return it post match etc. At the very least this would drop the numbers and the prices. bobbydazzla
Current set up is a ticket touts dream like I’ve bought over 20 home tickets so far this season, helping mates get to the match If I can get that many, a tout using a bot system will have got loads more The tout could be based anywhere in the world, just profiting on the demand we have Wouldn’t have been possible with paper tickets Edited November 11, 2023 by bobbydazzla
ponsaelius
Exactly, if I was a cunt, I could have a touting racket set up in about 24 hours making me piss easy pocket money every month and also guaranteeing myself a ticket every week at no cost. I'll be honest I much preferred the ticketing system in the 1990s than today's shambles. The only odd tout you seen was bloke on the street and it was a breeze to access the ground. No daft ballots or randomly allocated seating. It was just better. Digital ticketing is a touts paradise and is the reason why more and more of these touting websites are springing up.
