He doesn't really have any negotiating power with 3 years left, it would be more like a decision from the club to reward him for being so good. But they can only reward him as much as they can afford.

If he signed a new deal he could easily still be unsettled and/or sold.

He has huge negotiating power if he wants to be difficult and leave. Everybody always says don't keep an unhappy player, so if he decides he's unhappy because we won't pay him what he could earn elsewhere, or he's unhappy because the club is a shambles and we can't strengthen the team sufficiently to challenge for the title or the champion's league, he'll be off and there will be nothing we can do about it.

He is but the circumstances have to align. They have to have a gap for a central striker, they have to have the money, they have to choose him over other options, he has to want that move etc.

It’s not so simple as just matching what Paris could pay him.

It could well be Liverpool are tapping him up. We wanted him as well as Ekitike, who's to say they don't?

I'm not saying they do FWIW, but he will find a club which will pay him top wages, I'm pretty sure of that. I think we'll offer him a better contract with a release clause of around £150m so we'll get at least another year out of him.

Said this a few times now, but just because we pay Isak 250k doesn't mean we have to automatically give everyone else a pay rise. Tonali is probably the only other absolutely elite player on our books, Bruno is fantastic but with the lack of pace downside, he probably couldn't command the really big wages.

Yes, love Bruno but if a club offer 120m+ for him he'll be sold.

We shouldn’t sell him this window under any circumstances like, contract or not.

Agree. We'll offer him an improved contract with a release clause IMO. That way we both win.

And if he gets a new contract with a pay rise, NO release clause.

I do not imagine a scenario in which Isak leaves this window. Most likely scenario is new contract with 230k pw with a release clause and gentleman's agreement allowing him to leave next summer for a big fee. Win-win for all parties involved.

I'm sure he'll survive another season with us playing Champions League football and competing for domestic trophies

Just look at how brutal the striker market is now. We can't afford to lose our only recognised striker (even if he put's in a transfer request)  going into a CL season whereby we could easily be playing more than 50 matches

Fuckin unhinged fanbase

That pic was when he 1st arrived at the club. Unless it's spookily the same shot as when we were hanging on for injury news

Then fuck him. Make him wait his contract out.

That would risk him deciding to play half arsed for a season or being inconveniently injured.

Would be better to give him an improved contract then sell him next year on our own terms.

I hope we can reach a compromise with him that keeps him motivated, performing at his peak and allows us to sell at a premium next summer (IF thats what all parties agree to)

By the end of the season who knows....maybe the PSR rules can be blown out of the water and we can actually play our top players top wages.

Confirmation “he was there but came out later on and trained alone….. 🤦‍♂️

Not uncommon is it for players who are having to have their game time managed etc?

How do we sell him on our own terms with a release clause ?

No idea. But he may have picked up a knock in training since perhaps?
