But I think this notion of selling your best players and reinvesting that money in other players and somehow being better for it is overall a bit of a myth. There'll be the odd occasion where it's the right move, but that would usually be because someone is overpaying for whatever reason. And even then there's no guarantees. Without PSR I agree with you. We can’t afford to do it the other way.

Elanga I am more than happy with, and Thiaw we tracked for over a year so I would be surprised if he flops. That would definitely put a question mark over whoever has been following his career. I don't really get why PSR matters here, apart from it being utter bullshit. Selling your best player for let's say £150m and replacing with two players who aren't as good for the same amount leaves you in a worse position PSR or no PSR. TRC
I feel there must be a mutually beneficial loan for us. We loan someone Isak and they give us their striker, we get a striker and they get an upgrade most likely.

Or are you saying we should just take the risk? we’re absolutely not at the stage where we can just buy players valued higher than the ones we have. PSR is the reason. Are you essentially saying that the solution to the Isak issue is to buy someone who is better than him? Haaland available?

Are you essentially saying that the solution to the Isak issue is to buy someone who is better than him? Haaland available? We might be crossed wires here. I'm not suggesting to buy £150m players. I'm saying if we end up with £150m players we should not be selling them. And we should be paying them as close as we can within the bullshit constraints to the going rate. I read it as you were suggesting the way to grow was to sell the £150m players and replace with other players who might one day themselves become £150m players. I'm just saying there's a risk in this, and if you do it really well your ceiling is probably fighting it out for the Europa spots every now and then. Obviously something has gone wrong at the board/negotiation level in this case. And fuck him because of how he's gone about it but in an ideal world Isak would be on a new contract getting paid what he should be going into this season. alexf
When Howe said something like.... "I've been giving all my energy to the players that want to play for Newcastle" it was a telling slip of the mask for me despite his calm polite demeanor. I think he's done with Isak and would love to call out his despicable behaviour for what it is. But he's too professional for that and until he's officially gone he is being as diplomatic as he can. Matt1892
I can see a face saving exercise where Liverpool give us what we want for Isak and we spend a fortune on someone like Curtis Jones.

Yeah, it was a very telling and barbed comment. I also think he wants this scumbag to fuck off but it's escalated way beyond his pay grade now and he has to find a way to reintegrate him should it come to that. There's also an argument that as a club we aren't ready to have a £150m player. As much as it is of course an asset to have one of the world's best it can also be a distraction and negative. It's a real delicate balancing act to get it right but in this case it unfortunately seems like the £150m ego and Scouse tapping up cunts have taken him away from the club.
