I really thought that the bar was very high for what can be considered as an obvious goalscoring chance, judging by earlier incidents.

I'm sorry but I would rather have last years ruleset back than this new stuff where the refs inital decision almost always stands. As terrible as VAR is, English refs are even worse. Shocking standards for the best league in the world.

It's similar to the Umpire's call in cricket. Sounds like a good idea in theory, but in practice, if the official has even the hint of bias in him (and they all do) then those marginal decisions always go in favour of the team he wants to win.

 

Over time these decisions add up massively in the favour of the big teams, at least in football.
