It's not always bait son. That's just the truth.

Ashley Cole's peak is higher than Irwin's, but did he perform at a high level for as long as Irwin? No. EDIT: (ignore this, Froggy's not well)

Kyle Walker's peak is higher than Neville's, but did he perform at a high level for as long as Neville. No.

etc. etc.

You still put Ashley Cole in at left back in an all time XI, because his highest level was better than anyone else's in that position.

By that metric Bale gets in over Giggs and Suarez gets in over Shearer or any other suggestion at CF.

Tbh I think she's just about right. Salah's got the longevity at an extremely high level in his favour.

This is where it comes down to opinion, but I think Giggs had multiple seasons that were better than Bale in 12/13. Bale and Suarez were both incredible though so it's a fair argument either way.

If longevity at an extremely high level is the bar, then Giggs goes in over Henry. Giggs was tearing teams apart as a teenage winger in the early 90's, and controlling games as a 39 year old central midfielder in the 2010's. His highest level isn't as high as Henry's though.

Could be an interesting debate though and would be interesting to see how people's teams would differ.

Ronaldo was literally the best player in the world while in the Premier League. Salah has been at a high level for a longer period, but never a higher level. It's just recency bias from someone not old enough to have seen the players talked about in their prime.

If we're talking about sustained high levels, then the all time Premier League team would just be a Man United team plus Shearer.

Salah is probably the best player in the world right now.

Remeber when Giggs won player of the year. Think he started 13 games in the league that season.

That year was a sham. Should have just created a 'lifetime achievement' award instead.

Not for me. Invisible against PSG and Newcastle in crucial games.

Reckon Dembele is the man this year.

Yeah. Made a bit of a mockery of the award that.

He probably still had like 20 assists that season mind.

Dembele is quite far off Salah’s numbers this year, in a worse league.

Ashley Cole was mint for about 10 years, Irwin similar, so how does Irwin have the longevity over him?

It's not all about numbers. Chris Wood was outscoring Isak for most of the season has he not? Isak is 20x the player Wood is.

Ashley Cole only played in England for 7 years. Irwin for 12.

Am I being whooshed here?

This is why I prefer eye tests over stats because stats can be misread.

Can we go back to talking about how Martial's stats were better than Isak's in their first season?

It's a brilliant game. Reds Blues doesn't always have to be real football...

I'll skim over Giggs's peak being higher than Bale's because...no. But yeah, I get the thinking behind it.

For me Salah has had one or two 10/10 seasons and like seven or so 9/10 seasons vs Ronaldo's one or two 10/10 seasons and two or so 9/10 seasons.

If we're doing an 'only peak' XI I think Suarez gets in before anyone as well. He's the highest peak I've ever seen in the league, higher even than Henry, Shearer, Ronaldo, Bale.

I used to play a bit as a kid I seem to remember, I'll not have followed official rules though. Just flicking wildly. Preferred the Test Match Cricket version
