Chicken Dancer Posted Thursday at 08:39 Share Posted Thursday at 08:39 This April seems very reminiscent of April 2023 when we just turned it up a notch, scoring goals for fun at West Ham & Everton then dismantling Spurs at home in 20 minutes. A 0-3 defeat at Villa was sandwiched in the middle to be fair, but we still bounced back the week later against Spurs. A defeat this weekend - despite how bad it will feel at the time - is definitely not the end of the world. We've built ourselves a little cushion. I actually think we get a draw on Saturday and we win all our home games. Should be more than enough given we have the buffer of finishing 5th. Aim high now - hunt down Arsenal. If we finish 2nd and win a trophy there's a massive argument that it's the greatest season in our history, given the competition these days. Even if we get Champions League football and a trophy there's definitely an argument.

Mazzy Posted Thursday at 08:56 Share Posted Thursday at 08:56 66pts should do it. That's for 5th of course, I think we'll get 3rd with 69pts. The 71pts from 22/23 season is still possible but I think it'll be just out of reach for us.

I'm telling you man. We are winners. Get us a couple more and we can win the league. Or at least do what Villa have done in the CL. We'd beat this version of Real Madrid IMO. Too lazy, open and disjointed for us.

We by rights should be winning our three home games, and then we'd just need to win one of our away games. We've got a good record against Villa, Brighton seem to have lost their form (and they've been a very streaky team this season I think) and we've played Arsenal three times this season, winning all three without conceding. Obviously, all three games the home teams will probably be favourite, but over the course of them I think we should win one. We've only lost 5 away games all season. Optimistic points tally would be 13 more points. On par is 9. With our form, you would aim for 10-12 points. Win our home games and get at least 1 result from an away game. Chelsea aren't getting 12pts from their next 18pts available. There's just no way they do that. Villa are more likely to, but it's unlikely seeing as they play us and Man City in their next two games and then a Semi-final and probably a final still to go this season. Decky Posted Thursday at 09:13 Share Posted Thursday at 09:13 Imagine we were the runners up in the league this year. Been a great season this, and that's even with our huge dip in form earlier.

Don't think it's been announced yet but last year looks like it worked out at about £2.8 million per place. So I'd guess probably around £5.6-£6 million this year. Pays for Wilson and Lascelles for another year.

midds Posted Thursday at 09:24 Share Posted Thursday at 09:24 Chelsea aren't catching us now, not a chance they make up that 5 point gap given how we're both playing with only 6 games left, they're on the manager's back and moaning about how shit they look. They also probably have 5 more European games to fit in between now and the end of the season. Which leaves Villa. Simply avoid defeat (easier than it sounds I know) on Saturday and I think we can rule them out too. We're essentially 6 points ahead given the GD and we'd only have another 5 games to play. We could all but ice it by 8pm Saturday imo. And that's not even mentioning the fact that Chelsea play Forest and Villa need to go to Man City too. Still think we'll finish 4th but that win last night was huge, it looked a tricky fixture on paper but we just bulldozed them bumping up the GD in the process, +8 for the week so far

The College Dropout Posted Thursday at 09:29 Share Posted Thursday at 09:29 I fancy Villa against Man City man. Man City will win the last 3. But I see them dropping points before then. I fancy both Villa and Everton to cause them trouble. We can finish above City for sure.
WilliamPS Posted Thursday at 10:03 Share Posted Thursday at 10:03 Beat Villa and Ipswich and if Villa beat Palace in the FA Cup then I think we get a thread title change to Europa league (At least), something for Tindall to whisper in the players ears at 17:29 on Saturday
Chicken Dancer Posted Thursday at 11:12 Share Posted Thursday at 11:12 (edited) I think the day we go to Anfield/Emirates/Etihad and beat them (in the league) will change everything. Without being too critical of an absolutely amazing season, I still am not entirely comfortable with how we consistently roll over at Anfield and the Etihad without laying a glove. We've shown time and time again we can give these teams a game at St James, so I'd like to see a mentality shift away from home in the coming years. We've at least 2 - maybe 3 or 4 - players that would start for any team in the league. It will be a huge hurdle to get over for us mentally, and will give the entire club belief that one day we can win the league. I'm sure it will change, it's easy to forget this is only the 3rd full season since the takeover/Howe, it really still is in it's infancy. But we absolutely can win the league. Never, ever thought I'd think that way in my life, but with the cup win and that, the sky really is the limit. I've never been so excited for the future, it's beyond anything I could ever imagine the belief I have in the current squad and coaching staff. Strap in because it's going to be fucking amazing. Praying for a trip to Madrid in autumn! Edited Thursday at 11:12 by Chicken Dancer

The final was a neutral venue and just reaffirmed my view that we can absolutely hang with them, so why not go to their place and play the same way? I'm not being too critical, most teams go to those places and approach the game a similar way. But beating one of them away would change the mentality for us as a club and probably the wider perspective of us too.
