Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

I’m genuinely pleased for him.

Whatever people think of him, moving to Barcelona is a huge achievement for any player. Barcelona is unquestionably a bigger club than Newcastle and one of the giants of world football. I'm surprised he was on their list.

I’m also glad the move appears to have been handled professionally by all parties. There’s been no public drama, no forcing an exit, and both Gordon’s camp and the club seem to have conducted themselves properly throughout.

He gave us some good moments and played a big part in getting the club back into Europe.

That said, I don’t think he leaves as one of the great Newcastle left wingers. For me, players like Ginola and Robert generated a level of excitement and magic that Gordon never quite reached.

Good player, good servant, and a fantastic move for him. I wish him well. It’ll be fascinating to see how he performs in a team surrounded by players who are significantly better than the ones he’s been playing with at Newcastle.

Well that's hardly a fair comparison!

Not many come close to Roberts left foot... 🤣

I don’t agree that his behaviour has been handled professionally. He’s looked half arsed most of the season, certainly not played to his best level. And he’s almost certainly sat out the last month.

At this point last year Isak had behaved much better.  Was our best player the entire season. Available for selection right through the end even though it looked like he was carrying an injury.  Told the club he wanted to leave.

The only difference is how the club have handled it. I applaud the club for learning from previous mistakes. But I won’t applaud Gordon.

Such a smarter lad than Isak. Doesn't take much effort to tell the fans what they want to hear, instead of doing what Isak did last summer.

And in 10,20 or even 30 years time Isak?

We will still know what you did that summer... 😄

All I can think of, is that this is exactly how it could have all panned out for Isak. Except he would have left in much higher regard. What a fucking complete twat.

Anyway, glad Gordon's got his dream move. I'm not shedding any tears over this, he's been so inconsistent for us and seemingly not arsed a lot of the time, especially this season

How? The club have sold Gordon in May - seemingly inviting offers.  This is after being middling all season and sitting out the last month.

Isak did the same thing but was being told he wasn’t to be sold.  So he had to force the move.   All while being our best player for 2 years straight, scoring the winner in the cup final, firing us into the CL etc.

Isak was even on his original contract. Gordon only signed a new contract about 20 months ago.

??? Gordon sacked in the last month, was indifferent for most of the season and got his move in May.  Isak did better to this point than Gordon.

I think I take back the things I said about him the other day. I was very negative because of everything in those last few games but there's no denying he gave us some great memories. No point being bitter about a few weeks amongst 3 and a half years.

Good luck to the lad, Barca are a serious outfit and I wouldn't begrudge anyone leaving us for them if the deal was good for us too and it was handled properly. I'll enjoy following their results over the coming years and seeing how he gets on which is why I prefer players going abroad because I would absolutely not be saying this if he went to Liverpool.

Howay, Gordon did not sack the last month off. How’s this still being said? It’s been obvious that was Howe’s decision for weeks, and that’s also exactly what that Athletic article says.

That's why I'm saying Gordon played the optics much better. Maybe Isak was unlucky about how the club handled it, I'm not totally sure.

I don't imagine him sitting out the last month was his decision entirely. It was a decision that worked for both parties in that the club were also likely to be reluctant to play him in order to not jeopardise the imminent £70m transfer that everyone knew was going to happen once the season ended.

Last season Isak started six of our last seven matches and scored three goals. We were pushing for the Champions League and made it by the skin of our teeth. We clearly expected to sell him in the summer. He wanted a move, we couldn't afford to give him a new contract and all the evidence suggests that we needed the money: we were just about to sell the stadium and adjacent land to ourselves in a one-time workaround as we faced record losses and the prospect of falling foul of PSR. We made a hash of the process of selling him and securing a replacement.

Two of those three goals were pelanties. In the ten games after the Cup win he was phoning it in. Scored four goals including the two pens. No idea why you think we "clearly" expected to sell him at that stage.

And no matter how much this is repeated the same nonsense will still keep being spouted.

Actions speak louder than words though.

He sat out games at the end rather than do what he's paid to do.

I do think there has been shades of Isak here, the only difference is how the club have handled it. Gordon has clearly wanted out for a while, probably going back to the Liverpool interest, but in his defence he did get his head down for a while afterwards.

Having said that, whether it was his decision or Howe's that he sat out the last month is immaterial, we've seen out the season without one of our best players because he wanted off. The only difference is we haven't tried to keep hold of a disgruntled player this time and chosen to extract maximum value as early as possible, the club have clearly learned from the Isak saga and thats a positive.

People are just taking it easier because Gordon didn't publicly kick up a fuss and has gone abroad.

Semenyo played well right up until the day he signed for city.  As did Guehi.

Isak was our best played and was available to the end of the season despite telling the club he intended to leave.

I haven’t read the athletic article.  Keen to learn.

The revisionism here man [emoji38]

Isak was awful during the run in and it nearly cost us Champions League football. Everyone at the time thought he was carrying an injury he was that bad until we found out he was being a fanny behind the scenes telling people he wanted to leave. Callum Wilson was kicking off about it and alluded to this going on behind the scenes and Isak still getting picked over him.

A lot of the people “not comfortable” with Gordon’s send off are the people that seemed have attached to the made up narratives about him. He was undeniably poor in phases during this season but you could label that on every single player in our team.

Cracking send off from the club and a genuinely lovely leaving video from Gordon. It’s exactly how it should be when all parties have benefited.

I'm indifferent about the whole transfer, I dont think we have a bad deal and at least its done early.

What is pissing me of is the congratulations to the transfer team, I'll save that till we have someone in worthy of a shirt

When the club are putting out and saying the stuff they are, the situations are so different (Isak + Gordon).

It’s very clear to me that this is an amicable parting of ways and was probably agreed he could leave last summer or during the season.

Good luck to him, I’d like to think he gets a decent reception if he ever returns for a CL game or something.
