I keep thinking of when Murphy was subbed off 29 mins after coming on as a sub, I remember thinking he was putting on a brave face. It's probably best not to address these things in the heat of the moment in front of cameras and a crowd. Players don't like being substituted no matter what the reason is. Wilson has looked seriously pissed off at times when he has been taken off especially if he's on for a hat trick. Players reacting badly to being subbed tactically is almost as old as tactical substitutions. Gordon overreacted but the readings into his character - or Howe’s thinking - are stretching it.
